Subject: Science Movie???

Hey all,
I'm looking for a title of a movie that was popular in the 80's. The plot involved a couple of kids in collage and a project. The were working on a laser and i remember them shooting it through about 10 walls at there school. Also in the end it was used by the army to shoot out of there plain and hit a target but the ended up hitting there teachers house that was full of popcorn. He was there because they played a trick on him to stay there buy using the "GOD" voice. There's a brief discription so if there's anyone that can help me out with the title. Thanks
