The last person to knock on my door (as I recall) was one of the kids from a downstairs apartment wanting to know if we had any odd jobs for him to do to earn some money.  So we paid him to brush the snow off our car, only he brushed it off the neighbor's car instead of ours.  Oopsie.  ;D

I did...and shot them down before they got started. I've had practice in the past and they will just leave if you tell them your not interested (in a strong but polite way). I offer no other conversation or they think they have a foothold again.

Sometiimes I feel bad about it because they seem so committed (walking around in very hot temperatures etc) but I then remember back to when I have been too soft and they have kept me at the doorstep for an hour. >:(
