...wondering what Manfred Mann's Earth Band song Blinded By The Light is all about.
A version of the song recorded by Manfred Mann's Earth Band was a major hit, reaching #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 on 19 February 1977. As of 2007, the Manfred Mann's Earth Band recording of "Blinded by the Light" is still Springsteen's only Number 1 single as a songwriter on the Hot 100.
In 2007, house music producer Michael Mind produced a version of the song, which was very successful and popular at clubs and discos.
Lyrics
Springsteen wrote the "Blinded By The Light" after most of the others on Greetings were finished and is also one of the few songs for which Springsteen wrote the words before arranging the music.
The song's swiftly-paced, jumbled lyrics are stream of consciousness descriptions of a series of bizarre individuals he met while a young artist in New Jersey. Playing small venues, such as bars along the Jersey Shore, Springsteen recounts various characters from these events. He alludes to Vini "Mad Dog" Lopez, then his drummer, in the opening line "Madman drummers", as well as the "silicone sister" (bartender, possibly referring to an erotic dancer) who encourages him to play a particular, unknown song. United by the chorus: "And (s)he was blinded by the light/cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night/Blinded by the light/(S)he got down but (s)he never got tight,(s)he's gonna make it (alright) tonight", the song goes on to chronicle Springsteen's trouble to get the bar patrons, who rarely cared about or even heard the music, to get excited by his performance.
The meber reference is to the religious conversion of Paul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus, but Springsteen was referring metaphorically to the music industry and wealth and fame.
The lyrics of the song feature extensive use of internal rhyme rather than the more common end rhyme, in couplets such as:
Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
He says "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funnybone, that's where they expect it least."
Springsteen's version has been described as folky and acoustic compared to the Earth Band's hard rock take on the song, which prominently features early electronic keyboards. The theme from the popular piano waltz "Chopsticks" can be heard prominently after the song's bridge.
"Deuce" versus "douche"
The chorus of the song features the commonly misunderstood lyric, "Blinded by the light, cut loose like a deuce, another runner in the night." ("Deuce" refers to a '32 Ford Deuce Coupe.) Many listeners hear the word "douche" in place of "deuce." Manfred Mann's Earth Band changed this line slightly to "revved up like a deuce" (often misquoted as "wrapped up like a douche") and repeated it much more frequently in their version than Springsteen did in the original; they also omitted parts of the verses and rearranged the order of the remaining lyrics.
Springsteen, in his 2005 VH1 Storytellers appearance, lightheartedly made the assertion that the sole reason that Manfred Mann's version of the song went to number one is that the altered lyric is actually "revved up like a douche". Bruce said, "The original lyric is 'cut loose like a deuce" referring to a two seat hot-rod, a little deuce coupe. Manfred Mann changed the lyric to 'revved up like a douche', which is a feminine hygienic procedure....so, they're different." It should be noted, however, that Manfred Mann's website lists the lyric as "deuce" rather than "douche". It was once rumored that Chris Thompson's New Zealand accent may be responsible for swapping deuce for douche; however, this cannot be correct as "deuce" said with a New Zealand accent is pronounced something similar to "juice".
* A reference to the song was made in an episode of Saturday Night Live, where David Spade plays a character who cannot make sense of the lyrics to the refrain of the song. The short-lived sketch comedy show The Vacant Lot featured a group of friends, all with their own different interpretations.

To reach 200,000 (currently 140255) with an average of 111.111 would take 537.7 days time, that will be over a year.

'You CANNOT BE SERIOUS !'
JOHN McEnroe claimed revenge on behalf of the "old girls" as he showed Mark Philippoussis how much work lies ahead in his tennis comeback.
A greying McEnroe, 48, had little trouble with the 18-year age difference as he defeated Philippoussis 6-4 6-4 today in their play-off for third place in the seniors tournament in Dallas, Texas.
Philippoussis entered the Champions Series (30 and over) event to get matches under his belt as he eyes a return to the ATP Tour after a 10-month injury-enforced absence with hopes of getting an Australian Open wildcard entry.
His results from four matches in four days were mixed with round robin wins over Petr Korda and Todd Martin offset by a loss to Wayne Ferreira then the defeat by McEnroe, the oldest man in the series.
Seven-time grand slam champion McEnroe showed some trademark touch and feel as he beat Philippoussis.
He didn't miss with a friendly jibe afterwards either, referring to the Australian's starring role in the US TV reality dating show Age of Love where he chose 25-year-old "kitten" Amanda Salinas, rejecting the 40-something women.
"He picked the young girl so this win is for the old girls," McEnroe said.
But the American legend also had words of encourgement for Philippoussis, now ranked a distant 483 on the ATP computer.
"I think he could come back and scare some people," McEnroe said.
Philippoussis said during the week that he was not sure what his next event would be, but he is planning to play during the Australian ATP summer circuit in January and would ask for a wildcard into the Australian Open.
"I felt a little stiff today - mainly just stiffness from playing more matches this week," Philippoussis said.
"It took a toll physically as the week went on. The biggest thing is my body holding up. My goal is to be ready for the Australian Open."
Ferreira, 36, won the tournament when he defeated Jim Courier 2-6 6-3 11-9 (Champions Tie-Break) in the final.
Aah yes! Always nice to whoop a young pup ! :D ;D

Still picking myself up off the floor. I have a mate ... we call him 'Ozzie' ... although I've always thought of him more as 'Aussie'. Well, he's England born (like me ) .. but called 'Ozzie' 'cause his surname is Osborne (a corruption of).
Ozzie is somebody I've known since around 1982 ...... but on the fringes ... except I've seen a lot of him through this other friend Dave .. who I consider to be a closer friend. Anyhow ............ Ozzie called me up this afternoon .... to volunteer his assistance in helping me clean up my place / get organised. I found this perplexing /weird ... but hey ... that doesn't happen every day ... so, I accepted his offer, even though I'd originally intended to go to a trivia, do something more fun.
He spent over 2 1/2 hours 'busting my balls' / coaching me to throw out this / throw out that. By the time he'd left .... we'd filled up a large 'wheely bin'.
He has probably moved me months along in a single night. If Ozzie were a member here ........ his Karma would now exceed Quirks in a single night (by my doing) .. if that were possible. 'Good on you Ozzie' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Still recovering from watching an episode of South Park .. that featured somebody called 'Martin Jefferson' ... who was extremely obviously very VERY similar to Michael Jackson. Why, he even had a son called 'Blanket' .... who just happened to get dangled from the balcony. There was a 'sleep over' involving some young kids, some adults receiving $100 in cash after busting in on this to go and treat themselves ... and .... Jefferson's nose fell off .... which prompted the kids (Stan & co) to go heading for the hills.

Depends who you are. I suspect a certain 'Martin Jefferson' (cough !) would be at pains to ensure his son 'Blanket' (names being entirely coincidental) never watches that episode. That's a lot of policing to do !

uploading my very first video that I've ever made. (I'm so proud of myself - I have finally made it to the 21st century).
Wanna see it? It's a 4-second video of a jellyfish that I saw at the aquarium today. Now that I know how to do it, look out...everything will be on video... (YIKES!)

My hubby had the very same problem having eaten the very same food, and went to bed about an hour ago. I wonder if it were a bad batch of bananas? :o
