That's because Krispy Kreme terminated the franchise license of the California franchisee.  Later on the franchisee filed bankruptcy.  It wasn't because it was an "'in' fad".

That being said, the downtown Raleigh location has the best glazed donuts when the "Hot Donuts NOW" sign is on.

Eller's donuts in Santa Barbara have the best donuts I've ever tasted.... in my entire life!!!!
