Subject: The go anywhere thread

Written By: jiminy on 03/15/05 at 11:19 pm

I like a thread that starts out with one idea and can take a 180 degree turn and be completely off subject, so the idea of this tread to talk about something of interest and feel free to throw in a 180 at anytime   ;)

Since I used the "cheesy" smiley lets start the thread off with cheese, I was so tempted to bring back meat :P

is bleu cheese really cheese?

what about cottage cheese?

Subject: Re: The go anywhere thread

I think they both are.

Question is..how did something thats essentially rotten milk become such a beloved food?

I have honestly never tasted cottage cheese (that I know of) and don't care to...

I was beginning to think no one liked cheese, I went to an Italian restaurant once and they put bleu cheese on my food, I couldn't even eat it, it really tasted nasty, cottage cheese I think is actually curds and whey like in the little miss muffit nursery rhyme... I've always liked sharp cheddar cheese the most

cottage cheese reminds me of cream cheese with less taste and more liquid, I would say the less taste is from the lower sodium in cottage cheese, thus making it more healthy for you

I love blue vein cheese and strong cheeses.  Blue vein is particularly good with fresh pears and baby spinach.  Makes a great salad.  My favourite is Blue Castello which is imported from Denmark but the Aussies produce some nice ones too.

Yeah, so the other day I was driving home and this supply van was driving ahead of me and to my right and the rear right tire just fell off. ;D  I mean the whole entire rim and everything.  At first it scared the crap out of me because there was a small explosion and sparks were flying, but the guy just pulled off the road and I kept driving.  I looked in my rear view mirror and I could see his tire slowly rolling through the intersection smoldering and all the traffic was stopped just waiting for the tire.  Later I laughed my a$$ off.  That was weird.

So have you seen the Geico commercials with the cavemen.

I LOVE cheese.  On pizza, mozzarella sticks, on crackers, cheese fondue, cheese sauce on baked potatoes, those cheesy scalloped potatoes, macaroni & cheese, chili cheeseburgers, nachos, man I could go on for days...  but I never considered bleu cheese or cottage cheese to be "cheese"

Just curious, what kind of food did the italian restaurant put bleu cheese on??  by the way they spell "bleu" I would think bleu cheese is french... italians have their own vinegarette dressing

I can't remember the name of the dish, this was a somewhat fancy Italian restarant (had to wear a non-rock t-shirt) I know it had chicken in it and came mixed with salad, it wouldn't of been bad had they not put the cheese on it, I normally get the traditional Italian dishes like pizza, fettuccine linguine I eat out

What IS a salad anyway?  To me, it's lettuce, maybe a few black olives and salad dressing.  The restaurants these days put so much crap on top, half the time I have to dig to even find the salad!

I like cheese on everything. spaghetti w/cheese, salad w/cheese, ham sandwich w/cheese even peanut butter sandwich w/cheese and I ABSOLUTELY cannot understand how someone could eat a hamburger without cheese... BLASPHEMY! ;D

speaking of cheese... the next time you have something on the grill try throwing on a couple of jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese and  wrapped in bacon.
delicious-o.

As a kid, I hated mushrooms. I guess my tastes changed over the years because now I love them. I also like MOST cheese. I don't like blue cheese. Chedder (the sharper the better) and  swiss are my favorites-especially if they are smoked. Now, I know a few of you (and you know who you are) are going to make a comment about putting a cheese ball into a pipe and firing it up. YOU KNOW FULL WELL THAT IS NOT WHAT I MEAN BY SMOKED CHEESE!  ;)

There's nothing as good as buying a wedge of genuine Italian Parmesano Reggiano or Pecorino Romano cheese and grating it yourself. Not cheap, but definitely worth splurging on once in a while. (I learned about this in the Sopranos cookbook.)

You don't eat them, you boil them in water until the water is a dark purple, almost black looking, you can even throw in tea bags and some sugar to cover the earthy taste, about one cup of tea should do the trick, you can look on-line for photos of what the mushrooms should look like, I even think they sell mushroom growing kits.  :D

Bands like Metallica were looked at as Heavy Metal, and didn't cater to popular taste so they sold less albums, Gn'R were seen as wanna-bes only because they were successful then in the 90s Metallica sold out and now most see Gn'R in a higher light, some of the bands that stayed "true" would me Megadeth and Slayer

Our neighbour's dogs (2 long haired daschunds) killed our three guinea pigs a few years back.  It was really awful .... but when you looked at Amy and Dudley (the 2 dogs) all I could think was that they were doing what came naturally.  We still don't know how they managed to escape from their yard and get into ours but from the day those guinea pigs arrived on the premises those dogs went ballistic.  They were always looking into our yard longingly.  We've never done the guinea pig thing again!  :-\\

And of, course, there is scab that means disloyalty to workmates .... strikebreakers are referred to as "scabs" - that isn't just an Aussie term or is it ???

OK, when you hear like a guitar solo that is just up and down... that is fret wankinng, when you get silly.

It isn't actually hard to do, as long as you play similar notes and go gradually up or down the board you can put on an impressive bit of Wankography without really having to do much.

Reading music and playing to it is like 100 times harder.

That's why people who can replicate solo's from like great songs are so talented.

It isn't actually hard to do, as long as you play similar notes and go gradually up or down the board you can put on an impressive bit of Wankography without really having to do much.

Reading music and playing to it is like 100 times harder.

That's why people who can replicate solo's from like great songs are so talented.

That sounds very impressive, Andy. I understand why it is called that now.  ;)

Anybody with any kind of guitar experience gets a thumbs up IMO. It must be very difficult to do.

Not really..I find a lot hard because i have 'The Claw' and big fingers.. that's why i will never be a very good guitarist. If i actually play to any sort of song, after 30 seconds i am so far behind it's funny.

I can just knock out my own stuff just random chords that sound alright, but of course i would never be able to replicate it, that's what's difficult.

I'm not actually a bad Bass Player, because Bass tends to be much slower, however amazing bass players are 15 to the dozens, not bad Bass Players are infinite  ;D

I see. It's still cool. I would love to play keyboard. I think with some regular practice, I might not be too bad. I can't play anything specific though.  :)

The one story he tells that always brings tears to your eyes is the time he was hired to clean the chimneys of a posh country house, the house was unfurnished so there was nothing in the house. He had been working over an hour and nature was calling so he sits down on the toilet and is doing his business and at this time the owners of the house pull up in the driveway and the parkway is right where the bathroom is located so he's sitting on the toilet and staring at four people in a car  ;D
