Can you hear if your computer is running any harder when the light is on, like does it sound like it is working? 

I asked my husband about this and he said that it could be a number of things hardware or software related.  He suggest trying to run your computer in safe mode and if you are still having the problem than it may be hardware related and at least you have narrowed it down.  I guess this means if the light goes off in safe mode it's probably has to do with software.

I did try it in safe mode and it is still the same. But No, it doesn't sound like it is accessing anything on the hard drive. The fan is running normal everything appears to be fine. I have a utility that scans to find hard disk problems, software problems, hardware problems... and so far nothing. I even went to so far as to call the manufacturer but conveniently their number is not toll free during the weekend and I am too chaep. I will most likely end up calling them tomorrow.

I figured it out.
Turns out I had my P!nk cd in the second cd-rom and because it was in there the puter was always on standby to play it - thus the reason why the light was constatly on! Well, at least I figured it out!

That's a nice idea, but that stuff contains a LOT of caffeine. Last year I used to drink it regularly until I felt kinda queasy.
