I'm sorry to hear that, Vile...THIS is for you....
The Sweetest Condition
Taken in by the delicate noise
Knocked to the ground by the subtle thunder
Shackled and bound by the sound of your voice
Wandering around in silent wonder
What chance did I have
With the silver moon
Hanging in the sky
Opening old wounds
Taking hold of the hem of your dress
Cleanliness only comes in small doses
Bodily whole but my head's in a mess
Fuelling obsession that borders psychosis
It's a sad disease
Creeping through my mind
Causing disabilities
Of the strangest kind
Getting lost in the folds of your skirt
There's a price that I pay for my mission
A body in heaven and a mind full of dirt
How I suffer the sweetest condition
Taken in by the delicate noise
Knocked to the ground by the subtle thunder
Shackled and bound by the sound of your voice
Wandering around in silent wonder

I've currently got some music from an advert in my head. It's driving me crackers trying to find out where it's from originally.
It is some instrumental music currently being used for the ING finance ad. It's starts off with flutes (possibly) and then some trumpets play for a bit then its back to the flutes (which might be keyboards?). I swear the music was originally for a 60's or 70's TV show.
Please can one of the Brits put me out of my misery?

Yes it is. :) I hadn't heard it in a long time, and listened to it yesterday morning on a not-yet-burnt-but-might-still-need-to-be-revised compilation Rush and I made a long time ago. It was great hearing it again, and it was great singing it on the way to the chemist. ;D :D

Hmmmm...I haven't tried that! The last time I came close to having anything like that happen was one day when I was by myself and I had Ultravox' Vienna LP turned up loud. I had things falling off shelves! (OK, it's a bit of an exaggeration. Cards and whatever was lightweight fell off. Nothing broke.) :)

I have..."Artificial Life" by Ultravox! in my head again. What is this...the third or fourth time?! I can't get it out! Funny thing, since I don't really listen to it all the time. 8)
ARTIFICAL LIFE - Ultravox! (from Ha! Ha! Ha! (1977))
All the boys are wearing their utility drag
The girls slip identikits from their utility bags
Some refugees from suburbia are laughing
Examining each other's gags
Vibrate on sulphate when it gets late
And their velocity begins to sag
And it goes on all night, all night
And it goes on and on, the artificial life
Mary Mary got so confused
About the fusion game, what a game
Blunked on booze, she talks like a newsreel
She'll take up any kind of bleak exchange
She turned to perfection once
But realised she'd only turned to pain
She ran through divine light, chemicals, Warhol, scientology, her own sex
Before she turned away
And it goes on all night, all night
And it goes on and on, the artifical life
I've learned to be a stranger
I've learned to be a stranger
I've learned to be a stranger
I've learned to be a stranger
Stranger still
I should have left here years ago
But my imagination won't tell me how
This whirlpool's got such seductive furniture
It's so pleasant getting drowned
So we drink and sink and talk and stalk
With interchangeable enemies and friends
Trying on each other's skins
While we're dying to be born again.
And it goes on all night, all night
And it goes on and on, the artificial life

Donnie Iris also had a minor hit with the song "Ah Leah"..."Ahhhh Leah...here we go again..."
Donnie Iris was a member of three one-hit wonder bands:
1. "The Rapper", by the Jaggerz
2. "Play that Funky Music", by Wild Cherry
3. "Ah! Leah!", by Donnie Iris and the Cruisers
I wonder if that is some sort of record? ???
Donnie's last name is actually spelled "Ierace".

I reckon Jonathan King in the UK might beat that. Unfortunately it's hard to find out because I can't recall all of his different personas. I'm fairly certain he released a song as himself in the sixties, then there was 'Una Paloma Blanca' and I think he was something to do with 'Johnny Reggae'. Plus there were some other dodgy 'novelty' numbers that I can't recall at the moment. I bet Paul would know.

Usually when I hear a cover of a song, I'm interested in hearing the original...and since Martin Gore's solo work is nothing but covers, I'd listen to his versions, and then I'd want to hear the original!
The cover of "Gone" is just as good, if not better than the original. (But then, I could just be biased.) :) I was lucky enough to find the Comsat Angels record that "Gone" is on (Waiting For A Miracle, I think it's called), but I haven't got around to listening to the whole thing yet.

I think you have their first album, they had an awsome post punk/new wave/mildly goth sound, guess that's the best I can describe them. Excellent group just didn't get lucky in the US, aka CS Angels.

John Cage (1912--1992) is one of the best known contemporary composers. If nothing else, people know him from his most famous work, 4'33" for piano, in four movements, all of them SILENT. Unfortunately, people don't usually "get" what the piece was all about.

I didn't hear anything about a reunion lately. They did regroup in 1993 to help their former sound man with his medical bills or something. Debora Lyall has a group she put together in the late '90s called Knife In Water, with one or two CDs out (not to be confused with Knife In the water, a different band).
The band denies A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing) references abortion, but that's how I always read it.
Trivia: In the '70s, Debora Lyall was in a "sixties revival" band in Fresno called "The Mummers and the Poppers," a great name if I ever heard it!

Oh, do! I do like most of his 80's albums. (The last one he did in the 80's, In Mysterious Ways, (1985) is a bit dodgy, I think...but don't take my word for it!) I haven't got 'round to listening to his later material yet, but what I have heard is pretty good. My favourite albums: Metamatic and The Garden, at least until I've heard the recent stuff. :)

Sorry, but I haven't really had anything running through my head since last night when I had "Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll" by Chuck Berry in my head. I had never posted it though. I'm tired and my mind is too fuzzy to have any songs in my head. I haven't even listened to anything today except for the TV...

By the way, D*mn was bleeped because darn just doesn't have the same effect.

He also produced one of Philip Lynott's solo albums (Together) and was a guest musician on it, and his first album, Solo In Soho. (Actually, a lot of people were guest musicians on that album, including, I believe, another Ultravox member, Billy Currie! I don't really remember who else. I'll have to look at my record to find out.) :)

I LOVE Phil Lynott and Midge Ure's song "Yellow Pearl," wich became the theme for "Top of the Pops." It was "Top of the Pops" wasn't it? I'll have to double check.
Morrissey: Ouija Board, Ouija Board
It got there because we were talking about the ouija board on the occultism thread. Of course, I had to post the lyrics there, too.

Speaking of themes, I've got the theme tune to Jamie Oliver's cooking show, Oliver's Twist in my head:
No matter who you are
Won't you come into my world

Take this journey with me to the heart
Can't you see that this is just the start

Yes, I think this 1985 hit was his most famous work (though he has produced for lots of people over the years). Interesting collage of media and music (done at a time when sampling hadn't taken off yet). He followed it up with a similar effort called 'Just for money' which was about The Great Train Robbery.

The Osmonds and "Crazy Horses". I heard it once (on AM radio) when it first came out. I think the album and its only single went by the same name. I also still remember it till this day as the most bizarre, god-awful song I've ever heard on radio -- and again, I only heard it once.
I even think The Osmonds referred to the album as their "Sergeant Pepper" album !
I'll look around and see if I can find a mp3 or sound clip somewhere. Maybe after all these years time has tempered its "in your face" awfulness to me.
