Not that much difference stylistically speaking, in 2000 I thought we would have futuristic clothes and radical, avant garde pop music in 2020 but it's more like a extension of what existed then.

What is even weirder is that in the actual year 2000, 1980 looked extremely dated, well it was an extension of the late 1970s. The cultural distance was larger back then, now the cultural gap in 21 century years is very miniscule in comparison.

I don’t know man. I think if you were to take someone from 2000 and show them an iPhone 11, they’d be pretty darn impressed. Looks pretty dated to me.

I wouldn’t say the current gap is minuscule, but I agree otherwise. Things like mobile phones, home computers (let alone one with a mouse and color GUI)... digital versions of things such as video games, synthesizers, music, movies... even internet didn’t exist in 1980 for the average joe if at all. They did exist in 2000. FWD unibody fuel injected computer controlled cars were not the standard in 1980, but were in 2000 and still are.

Do you mean like a continuation ? Like the year 2000 just seems like a old school version of 2020. Lots of things we had in 2020 existed in 2000 like the internet just an older version of it, pay phones as opposed to smartphone charging stations and more modern style design of the same cars. The biggest jump was probably in cell phones, a flip phone or brick phone just isn’t the same as a smartphone/glass phone

Slightly different story now.

I had no idea that TVs during Y2K looked like that.  ;D that's ugly. We had the large, bulky living room TV. I prefer the one from 2020.

Looking at this makes me realise just how futuristic modern technology is. Go back even 10 years and peoples minds would be blown.

Change PS2 for PS1, while PS2 was released in late 2000, it didn't really take off until a year later in fall of 2001.

2000 is an extension of late 90's, Internet was still very unknown and E-Commerce was really only used by upper class, if even.(see Internet Bubble). there were commercials still trying to explain what internet was.

I first got the Internet in late 2000, Godfather made us a PC with Windows ME(Ya'll remember that? lol) with Netzero dial up, as we'd been using an MS-DOS computer from early 90's.

Even then it was a delicacy, used probably 4-5 hours a month at most. this is why stuff like Pet.com failed and why the Bubble burst in 2000, Investors got too excited for this recent invention and thought what the Internet would be used like it is currently.

Nobody was using internet to buy stuff, nor was it even trusted or considered until stuff like Paypal came out.

Pets.com failed because my family was going to Petland Discount.

2002-2003 is when Internet was starting to take over.
