Subject: The Completeness of Time Periods

Written By: oldmusicfan on 03/06/20 at 1:23 pm

Does anyone else secretly wish that there was pop culture that did not span into the next time period?

I’ve often wondered what the 80s would be like if Super Mario Brothers 3 came out for the NES in North America in 1989. Would the 90s have been better if Toy Story 2 and Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me were released in 1998 instead of 1999 like they were? Should Lady Gaga’s Born This Way have came out in late 2009 over 2011? Would a Bob’s Burgers movie have been better suited for 2019 and not this year?

Where do you stand on this?

Oh, I wish the second Winx Club film came out earlier, like before 2010, but it came out after that time. Said film has a strong 2000s vibe too.

I also wish mainstream season 4 Winx Club English dubs came out earlier because that was the last good season of Winx Club in my opinion. The Winx and Specialists were more like adults, the season had a strong 2000s young adult drama vibe (with the soundtrack and, well, vibe) and it did not deserve to be lumped in with the same decade as the one which has terrible music and fashion.

As for other things that aren't Winx Club, yes too.

It’s like in one time period, we are becoming who we are in the next time period. Then, we turn loose who we were in both time periods before the newest time period ends.

As much as I love the 80s, a part of me can’t help but wish I lived in the year 1990 forever. The early 90s appeared to have it all over the 1980s, but my folks thought we were basically living in the 80s still in the year 1990. The year 1990 alone had some of the gnarliest moments for XYers in it. I would be more secure in saying that I wanted the 80s back if every episode of the first season of The Simpsons aired in late 1989, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film was out in late 1989, and Super Mario Brothers 3 for the NES were in stores before the end of 1989. It’s very aggravating.

I wish I lived in the early 2010s as a teen but while there were things in the early 2010s I loved, there were things in there I hated too.
At least people still regard emo, scene and pop punk as a distinctly 2000s phenomenon.

What do we remember the early 2010s for? The Royal Wedding, Kim Kardashian marrying Kris Humphries, and Instagram blowing up?

I may still prefer to be a 2000s teen though I guess.
