Subject: Why did 1950s-80s color photos look so nice?

The blacks/shadows were not so dark as now, yet the sky was not too light and they have some kind of a slight glow. They looked almost fairy-tale like:

It likely has to do with the fact that photos of that era were on film rather than digital. Similar to the fact that music on analog sounds far, far better than digital.
Having said that however, the photo you specify looks like it may be a touched-up postcard type illustration rather than a straight photograph, which would account for it's "niceness".

Exactly..... Digital pictures are ugly,flat and sterile......... (Just like digital video and audio)
Analogue is the best!!

^yeah and all the faux retro/vintage presets in apps look nothing like real retro. ;D

anything red turns pink. I'm not going to try to find anything that I want in red or pink at amazon.
