Subject: 2003-2010: The golden age of Turskish soap operas

Let's spice up the board with some exotic, slightly oriental TV influence! ;)
In some countries of Eastern Europe and most of the Middle East there has been a very strong wave of Turkish daytime drama series on TV. Some of them are even shown in the prime time unlike US-based soap operas. They have surpassed Latin American telenovelas in popularity in countries like Serbia, Bulgaria, N. Macedonia and Greece. Moreover, they've been shown in the Telenovela meccas of Latin America! I couldn't believe it that people in Chile, Brazil or Argentina would watch Turkish soaps but many of them do! :o Well not that surprising as the quality of telenovelas has seriously declined and most of them today are remakes of remakes... But the best Turkish soaps IMO were made in the 2003-2010 period like 1001 Nights (Binbir Gece), Little Women (Kucuk Kadinlar, a VERY loosely-based story), Falling Leaves (Yaprak Dokumu), Söhret, Fatmagul, The Cotton Bride (Beyaz Gelincik), etc. The Dawsons Creek remake (Kavak Yelleri) was also very good imo in its first seasons. Sea Star (Deniz Yildizi), another series focusing on teens and 20-somethings was also a fun series about mostly young cast.
The quality of the Turkish soaps has also declined in recent years, especially after 2010. The Turkish O.C., Gossip Girl and Desperate Housewives remakes were all way worse than the fantastic originals IMO: https://www.vulture.com/2013/09/the-oc-turkish-oc-comparison.html 8-P I find especially the 2013-present Turkish TV series boring and too formulaic. The music is too loud, the drama is even more OTT. Fazilet Hanim And Her Daughters is a 2017 soap that has every cliche trope. The Turkish Desperate Housewives pictured:

At least in Chile, turkish soap operas became very popular in 2014 with 1001 Nights and since then they haven’t lost their popularity

Lol, here (Bulgaria) they debuted in late 2008 so maybe we've had too much of them...
Btw, the first one here was also 1001 Nights as well! ;)

I do not recall seeing many Turskish soap operas here in the UK.
