Subject: What generation do you identify yourself as?

Written By: Tyrannosaurus Rex on 05/27/18 at 10:05 pm

Note: Please don't make this a generation cutoff debate thread.

As someone born in 1999, I seem to be a Y/Z cusp. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would say that I identify more as a late Millennial.

Most of us 90s babies see ourselves as more Millennials then Gen Z'ers now that we're older and have seen technology changed so drastically from the time we were kids till now as adults. Back in 2006 when there were threads on here about gen z, 1999 borns would've been firmly gen z territory due to being so young during the 2000s.

Subject: Re: What generation do you identify yourself as?

I don't really consider myself a millennial, but I'd say that I'm a Y/Z cusp and leaning Z. Also this thread will likely implode due to turning into a cutoff debate.

Generation Z.  Not early or late, just Gen Z.  I fit in perfectly with stereotypical Gen Z culture, though the oldest of people who I find difficult to relate to are people born 2002 and earlier.  I was born in 2005, so someone who's three or more years older than me yet belongs to Gen Z has similar experiences, but is also very different.

A very late Gen X. My birth year would mark me as a Millenial, but I was raised by Baby Boomers and Gen Xer's and my attitudes on things are very far removed from Millenials.

Gen Z IS the proper name.
Millenal was referred to as Gen Y.

Millenal was referred to as Gen Y.

*Millennial. Also, the terms Gen Y and Millennial are interchangeable.

Gen Z is the proper name for the generation that comes after Gen Y/Millennials.

If you and Mat1991 are referring to nicknames or alternate names for Gen Z, one example is the "iGeneration" or "iGen".

Gen Y/Z are lazy placeholder names that piggyback off of Gen X. I'm talking about less vague, more descriptive names.

*iGeneration or iGen

*Homelanders

*GenZennials

*The Mass Shooting Generation (dark, I know)

*Generation Insta

*Generation AI

*Generation Digital

The last few names I came up by myself. It's pretty hard to come up with alternate names for Gen Z TBH. That's why I think Gen Z is just fine.

They will eventually, just look at the word millennial for instance, up and till a few years ago Generation Y was still widely used to describe millenals, but being that they grew up or came of age during the turn of the Millenium the term stuck with them.

Which makes sense since Gen Y was mostly under 20 back then, the term Gen Z was like where Gen Alpha is now where the generation is still being born.

If you're talking about Millennial pop culture, then I have to disagree with you. There was tons of good music targeted at Millennials being Pop-Punk, 2000s R&B, 00s Alternative rap, and the electropop scene. For cinema, the flicks directed at millennials are now classics such as Road Trip, American Pie series, Mean Girls, Bring It On series, Superbad, etc. Then we have Millennial fashion which wasn't all Emo that most people claim it to be. First, we have baggy clothing, track wear, Hip-hop apparel, denim skirts, spiky hair, and even minimal gear. How is this generation's entertainment lame with all these pop cultural artifacts?

I'm a millennial but I feel mentally more like a member of the Silent or Baby Boomer generation. I use Boomer slang, dress old school, and most of the music I listen to came out prior to 1990.

The fact that you 2002 borns have to announce how cool you are is just fascinating. At least I was born the exact day the N64 came out. I'm pretty sure nobody can claim there were born on a console's launch.
