Subject: Years with the biggest political shifts in recent history

I would say that the top four in recent history are 1980, 1989, 2001, and 2016.
1980 marked the end of the left-leaning 70's and ushered in the right-leaning 80's with the Reagan v. Carter election.
1989 was when the Fall of the Berlin Wall occurred.
2001 was when 9/11 occurred and when the War on Terror started.
2016 had a surprise - Even though a lot of people predicted that Hillary was going to win the presidency, it was actually Trump that won the presidency. However, the conflicts between the fringe right and the fringe left greatly escalated that year.
