Subject: Parent Figures

What would be the latest birth year for someone to be viewed as your parent figure?

Early 1960's (1960-1963).

My mom was born in 1973 and my dad was born in 1967. I'm gonna have to say 1979.

Probably 1982 because my friend who was born the same year as me has a mother born that year.

I'd say 1978-1983.

1988.  For me, they'd have to be at least 30.

Early 1970s. I have a few uncles born around then.

I have an aunt born 1976 though and for the longest time I thought she was my older sister lol ;D

I'll say 1975 since I have a Godmother born that year.

1979: My youngest uncle was born that year and my youngest aunt (his wife) was born in 1978. I'm even old enough to remember when she was still in college and had more of an immature attitude. I remember when they got married in 2004 when I was 8 years old.

1980-82 born's are who I call my "teacher friends" a perfect hybrid between a peer and a parent. Since they are 14 to 16 years older than me. I use the 30 year rule for when parents have children on average. Half of that is 15 years. 1981 born's are 15 years older than me so that's the definite cutoff. My dad was born in 1966 and my mom was born in 1968, making them 30 and 28 the year I was born.

60's born's are like the grumpy mean parents who don't tolerate anything but they care about us deep down inside. 70's born's are like the nice, cool parents who'll let you slide with anything  ;D

Yeah that's because they were in the 20s when you were born, so there still seen as cool despite being your parents. I do know a lot of people my age with teen parents and they tell me their parents are strict. In my area teen pregnancy is huge so a lot of kids I grew up with have parents born in the late 70s.

I'll say early-mid 70s is the latest. I have relatively little amount of Gen Xer family members, but the ones that I do are typically 1st cousins. Even though they were technically my cousins, I always viewed them more as my uncles and aunts. However, more on the cooler/hip side, rather than my actual uncles & aunts whom were born in the 50s & 60s and were the stereotypical judgmental Boomer types.

Around Late 70s borns is where that crossover between parent figure and older peer merges. My oldest sister was born in 1977, and despite her being almost 20 years older than me I always viewed her as my 'super big sis' if that makes any sense ;D. Especially as I've gotten older, I can now talk to her about anything be it pop culture, politics, music, etc. I still don't really get that connection with my parents born in the 50s & early 60s, so theres clearly a distinction.

Once you get to early 80s borns, especially 1983 borns, is where the whole parent facade thing fades and they're just seen as older peers mainly. Many teachers in high school, for instance, were born in the early-mid 80s but they were pretty chill overall. We would talk about music, 90s childhood trends (back when the 90s kid debate was at its peak ;D), fashion, movies, etc. I never got 'parent vibes' from guys 10-15 years older than me, but you could tell it was still a bit of a generation gap if that makes any sense.

My 6th grade math teacher was born in 1980 and she was like a "teacher friend" to me and she was the kindest, most fun teacher I had all year. The rest of my 6th grade teachers were mean or strict. My Spanish II teacher my sophomore year of high school was born in 1982. She was a HOT Colombian! Everybody in that class chatted around, made close friends and formed life long relationships lol. My cross country coach sophomore year was born in like 1984 or 1985 and she also worked with the people with autism/disabilities, but she was a BITCH, like the evil babysitter like Icky Vicky. Horrible attitude no joke. I had a Calculus I & II professor born in 1991 and he was really fun to chat with and all his tests were take home. He was a cool guy!

1960s. I never really saw 1970s folks as parental figures despite that I had some of them as teachers. They seem to be the people who are cool rather than boring.

I'm going to say 1980.

Really anyone I view as a parent figure would be born around 1961 to 1980.

For me, 1978.
That's the latest birth year that a parent of one of my friends in my grade was born in, none of them have parents younger than that.
I had a teacher born 1979, he felt way more like a peer to me than an elder.
Plus, those born in 1978 were 19 when we were born, IMO that's the earliest "acceptable" age to have kids. Not ideal, the ideal ages to have kids are 24-33, but at least at 19, one has over a year to graduate, move out, get married, and conceive their child.

When those my age (b. late '97 early '98) were born, the average mother's age at first birth was 24.7, with the average mother's age at second birth being 27.6, and the average at third birth being 29.1
Therefore, most people my age would have parents born 1968-1973.

I take it back. My friends' youngest parents are born in 1982/1983. There's quite a few 1982/1983 babies that had kids in the early 2000's.

The oldest parental figures for me on the other hand would have to be early 60's. The range 1961-1981 is used for Gen X and I'd have to say that's also my parental figure range.

The '70s. I find it really hard to view someone who was born in the '80s as a parent figure since two of my sisters were born in the '80s.

I consider anyone born between 1950 and 1972 as a parental figure.

No later than 73

For those born in the '90s, it should go something like this.
Keep in mind these are all rough estimates;

Early '90s (1990-1992)
Peers = Late 1970s - Mid 2000s
Superiors = Late 1940s - Mid 1970s
Elders = Late 1910s - Mid 1940s

Mid '90s (1993-1996)
Peers = 1980s-2000s
Superiors = 1950s-1970s
Elders = 1920s-1940s

Late '90s (1997-1999)
Peers = Mid 1980s - Early 2010s
Superiors = Mid 1950s - Early 1980s
Elders = Mid 1920s - Early 1950s

Early '00s (2000-2002)
Peers = Late 80s - Mid 2010s
Superiors = Late 1950s - Mid 1980s
Elders = Late 1920s - Mid 1950s

When I was in 8th grade, we had two female teachers born in the late '80s. They didn't really seem like superiors honestly, in fact, they couldn't full control over us. We were wild. ;D

Most of my teachers were born from the late '50s to mid '80s, so this makes sense.

The elders thing I agree with, my grandparents and my 9th grade physical science teacher (who retired the year after) are in this criteria.

My brother was born in '97 and my mother was born in '78 so my mother had my brother at 19.

I'd say the earliest acceptable year would be something like 1966 since they would be 35, and the latest is 1979/1980 since they would be 21/22 by the time I was born.
