Subject: Randomly generated years: which one would you visit and why
Written By: Dundee on 03/30/18 at 7:35 pm
Let's say you got yourself a time machine but you're only limited to visit one year (from the 20-21th centuries) that is randomly generated like the group above!
Which one would you choose?

Not 1964 for me because of racism and not 1948 for the same reason. I like the 80s, but 1981 didn't have all the core 80s influences that I really like. 2026 or 2043... now that would be interesting, but 2026 and 2043 imo would be so different from now that it would be strange to suddenly travel to one of those years and feel the world having an entirely different vibe. That would be like traveling from 2007 (yes, I know 2010 is more recent but 2010 and 2018 belong to the same decade, so less of a difference compared to 2018 to 2026,) to now, or traveling from 1993 to now! I chose 1993 because I feel that the 90s are the decade that I truly know the least about.

I went with 1948.
I wouldn't go with any years I've lived in nor would I go with the future, because if I knew the future, I'd just be anticipating all the things that would happen (bad and good) once I go back to the present, and I'll hopefully eventually see it anyways.
1948 was a part of a time where there was a huge economic boom in the US, and I've always loved 40's music, fashion, etc., it'd just be cool to go there for one day. I would not like to live then though, just a visit as you mentioned.

Notice how the generator was biased towards to the 2000s, picking the first, the last and the middle in such a perfection ;D

2026 because I wanna see what music is being made that year and how I can make differences between 2016 and 2026.

I personally picked 2026 because it's just that much cooler to visit the future, and it's a near one so I won't be too alienated by the advancements achieved since now, just looking lame with my outdated model of smartphone ;D
I don't think I would be ready to see 2043 considering how much can change in 25 years (basically now compared to 1993, which also was picked by the generator :o). Just looks intimidating!
But tbh a lot of them won't too bad to visit:
1906 to see the Victorian era and life in heavily industrialized cities
1948 maybe the least, as Europe was basically still a bunch of rubbles at that point.
1964 for fangirling with the Beatlemania ;D
1981 for picking my fav New Wave/Post-Punk releases fresh out of the record stores :D
1993 cuz 90'S I GUESS
2000, 2005 and 2009 to see myself in various stages of my childhood :D

I change my mind. I'd go to 2005 to get a good custom channel URL before everyone else takes them. ;D
I'd take all the good custom channel URL's and sell the channels for profit. :D ;) ;D

I'm more worried about a nuclear winter by 2043 or complete economic collapse. I think the worst impacts of climate change will be a 22nd century problem. Nonetheless, I wouldn't want to see that year until I get there.
From this list, I would probably go back to 2009 and pass myself a piece of paper with some very important advice on it.

I wouldn't really go back to the 2000s because I wouldn't really give my past self advice during my childhood. However, I would go to 2026 to see how the future is like compared to now.

2026 is closer now than it is to the start of this decade, so I didn't pick that. 1981 would be neat and my second choice, but is recent enough for me to get a clear experience of what it would be like, and I didn't like the cars and economy of the time. I've lived through 1993, 2000, 2005, and 2009 so I'll pass there. 1906 and 1948 would be too low-tech, though I'd be interested in the earliest TV and the radio shows at the time.
I chose 1964, provided I didn't see any of my relatives. I would get to see television as a medium in its adolescence, while hauling silver coins from change in America, visiting the World's Fair in NYC, Motown, surf music, Beatlemania, the tail end of Old Hollywood, diners and drive-ins still popular, the earliest shopping malls, along brand new freeways with cities having more historic architecture intact along with less suburban sprawl. I would just visit the library for information and there's nothing like a telegram, written letter, or face-to-face conversation that today's world lacks.

No. "Online" didn't even exist in 1980.
The World Wide Web (aka being online and often misidentified as "the Internet") was created in 1989.
I don't know if this is just a glitch or a prank by the mods. Howard was only 6 in 1980 anyways.
