Subject: The Beatles vs Lady Gaga

The Beatles defined the Baby Boomers. Lady Gaga defined Millennials. Who made the bigger overall impact?

I mean I definitely like Gaga, but she's not the Beatles. I don't know how well known Gaga is going to be in 45 or so years, but she's probably not going to be as famous as the Beatles still are. I mean I was born 20 years after the Beatles were popular and I know pretty much every Beatles song, are many (if any) people who will be born in 2030 really going to know every Gaga song? I doubt it.

^ Also, The Beatles (as a band) recorded LOTS of songs during their time together, many of which became hits. Gaga, on the other hand, is still active on the music scene and has recorded many songs that have become hits...but I doubt that shell ever attain as many total hits as the Beatles did. (On the other hand, ya never know.)
Also, Gaga has been musically active longer than the Beatles were together as a band (although they did enjoy a mid-90s comeback with that "Anthology" album).

Err, I really like Gaga, but comparing a polarizing pop diva from a quarter century after Madonna to the most famous and influential band in history is a bit of an exaggeration.

This I agree with, actually.

Sorry, but how is this even a question? The Beatles not only influenced the popular culture of their time, but they continue to influence and inspire musicians today. They pushed the sonic boundaries of music and opened the floodgates for many artists and genres. Their influence in music can be seen across all different genres. Nirvana, Harry Styles, Lorde and ELO have all cited The Beatles as being an influence.

Agreed!
...and I cannot see Paul McCartney being influence by Lady Gaga?

I literally cannot choose! Both are probably my favorite music artists in general and I think your right. They both defined a generation!

Especially since he started performing long before she was even born.

THIS. I love both, and I definitely agree with Lady Gaga being the most influential in our generation (The Beatles for BB's & Nirvana for Gen X), but I honestly don't think Lady Gaga (or any musicians/bands since the 90's) could ever hold a candle to The Beatles. John, Paul, Ringo, & George remain to be timeless musical artists that still hold a lot of influence today. I can't really see that same impact with Gaga 40-50 years from now. Although I do see her as a modern day Madonna or Michael Jackson in many respects with her unique musical style and eccentric personality, that'll definitely hold weight for her influence decades from now.

Gaga can really sing ... but, I really can't see the world still talking about her in 50 years time. No contest!
