Dude, you should have made this the Your Favorite year for Popular culture (90s version) so the topics can be organized and spread. Actually, I might make a 2000s version anyway now.
My favorite year for pop culture of the 90s is generally the late 90s.

What an interesting question.
I guess somewhere in the 80's, like 1986.

You know, this is actually pretty hard. As much as I love the music, fashion, and some of the cinema of 1983 and 1984, both years are marred by mediocre gaming, as well as too much homophobia. 1994 and 1995 are a little better for gay rights and are flat-out excellent for music and film, but don't have my favorite fashion, not to mention the technology wasn't quite where I liked it most, yet.
Honestly, I'd say 2000 wins on an overall level. I actually really like the music of that year, both the mainstream stuff as well as much of the artsy stuff, it produced a lot of really good and funny movies, the technology was fantastic, the fashion was delightful, gay rights were accepted enough that I could live decently enough, and gaming was at its very finest.

I like the timespan of 1987-1995 very much. However, if I had to choose a specific year then it would be:
1989
Music
1. New Jack Swing was in full bloom with Bobby Brown ("On Our Own" from Ghostbusters II, "Every Little Step", "My Prerogative")
2. Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson were rocking the charts.
3. NKOTB and Madonna were also rocking the charts.
Movies
There was so many good movies in 1989 such as:
*Batman
*Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
*Back to the Future Part II
*Lethal Weapon 2
*Ghostbusters II (it's OK)
*Major League
*The Little Mermaid
*Field of Dreams
*Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
*Do the Right Thing
TV shows
New and older shows such as:
*Full House
*Roseanne
*Cops
*The Simpsons
*The Cosby Show
*Seinfeld
*Family Matters
*Saved by the Bell
*Baywatch
*Cheers
*The Golden Girls
*The Wonder Years
Sports (in the U.S.)
*Super Bowl XXIII (The San Francisco 49ers vs. the Cincinnati Bengals). The 49ers win 20-16 in what would be the second to last championship of the 49ers dynasty.
*1989 NBA Finals: The "Bad Boys" Detroit Pistons defeat the "Showtime" Los Angeles Lakers in a 4 game sweep. The Pistons would repeat as champions in 1990.
*1989 World Series: "Bay Bridge Series", "Battle of the Bay" The Oakland Athletics vs. the San Francisco Giants. The A's would sweep the Giants in 4 games.
"On October 17, 1989....just minutes before the start of Game 3, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the Bay Area causing significant damage to both Oakland and San Francisco. Candlestick Park in San Francisco suffered damage to its upper deck as pieces of concrete fell from the baffle at the top of the stadium and the power was knocked out. The game was postponed out of concerns for the safety of everyone in the ballpark as well as the loss of power...the series resumed on October 27 and finished the next day."
Politics
*George H.W. Bush became President of the U.S. on January 20, 1989 after being Ronald Reagan's VP for 8 years and defeating then-Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis in the 1988 U.S. Presidential election.
*March 24, 1989: Exxon Valdez oil spill
*The Berlin Wall was tworn down in November 1989. The Cold War was over
*In November 1989, David Dinkins was elected as NYC's first (and still only) African American mayor.
*December 20, 1989: President H.W. Bush launches Operation Just Cause to overthrow Panamanian leader Manuel Noriega.

The fact that Faith No More released "Epic" in 1989 is enough of a reason for me to like the year. :P

1985
This has always been my favorite year of all time, not only pop culturally but in terms of movies as well. (Two of which are my favorite movies of all time)
-Back To The Future
-The Goonies
-The Breakfast Club
-To Live And Die In LA
-Rocky IV
-Weird Science
-Commando
-Real Genius
-Teen Wolf
-Mask
-Rambo II
People consider 1985 to be the greatest year in teen movie history and with the some of films I listed above, you can see why.
Music wasn't quite as significant as the previous year, 1984, but was still great nonetheless. Though arguable, 1985 was also the last year where new wave and synthpop were at the forefront of the music industry. Here are some my favorite songs from '85;
Queen - One Vision
Madonna - Into The Groove
Baltimora - Tarzan Boy
Duran Duran - A View To a Kill
Dire Straights - Money For Nothing
Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
New Order - The Perfect Kiss

Are you basing the 2002-2008 timeline on the cultural 2000's or do you believe that your childhood occurred during those years? I personally consider 2009 and 2010 to have been apart of my childhood.

It's a combination of both.
I also consider 2009 and 2010 to be apart of my childhood but those were the "waning years". I didn't have as much fun as I did from 2002-2008.
