Most people hate 2008 because they hated the popular music of that year, the popular TV shows and the fact that The Great Recession was in full effect. However, 2008 was the peak year of my childhood and the Summer of 2008 was the absolute best summer of my life so far.

2014. Apparently it's supposed to be the year that everything went to hell in handbasket, but I thought it was a really fun year, with really upbeat music, a lot of fun video games, great TV shows, my favourite year for movies, etc. etc.

I was 21 years old and tried a lot of new things. :D

It was also probably the last year I was really excited for technology. For some reason, there's been a real slow down the past 3 years. In 2014, we finally got music streaming in Canada (Google Play Music), Netflix got popular, we got Uber, AirBnB etc., I bought some fancy Bluetooth Headphones, the Chromecast is a nifty little device, 4KTVs started to become common, and my current phone (Galaxy Note 4) also came from 2014 and goes up well against any new phone released today.

2016 by far. My life was pretty good that year so I like it I also didn't mind the music. Everyone hates on it but I had a good time

I don't know how to answer this topic other than that. Every year of the 2000s I like I feel people already actually warmed up to like 2005.

Same here. I'm tired of some folks saying they hate 2000 all because of the cheesy pop music. There was way much more than that.

I don't know what you guys are talking about but more people hate 1989-1990 much than 1999-2000. The years 1999 and 2000 are actually well liked years...at least by a lot of people 30 and under.

Well, the only reason they're hated is because most people tend to look at the films and music while overlooking everything else.

They look at the music and fashion more than movies because 1989 and 1990 had good to great hit movies overall.

2016- I loved every minute of it. The suspense, the twists and turns.

2001- Lots of tragedy, but the response was exciting as hell. USA! USA!

I'm gonna say that I love 2008, if you read some of my posts about the year. If not, then I love the year because I think it was when the Internet was great in my taste. It was also when I go my Wii, which was really fun growing up with it. Not to mention that I got my HP desktop around November, which ran originally with Windows XP.

I like 2008 too, it's really the last real '00s year and most of it was before the crash anyway. That was the year I turned 21 so that was exciting. I don't miss the $4.00 a gallon gas though, I remember 2008 was the worst of gas prices. Early Katy Perry and Gaga were fun that year and Rihanna had good hits. It was the year modern smartphones started getting a bit popular, but it was still very cutting edge to have one. Social media was kinda just taking off, but wasn't anywhere near as dominant and powerful as now. I miss 2008 for that tinge of old schoolness compared to now and the novelty of just turning 21.

Right on! There were great films, games, and even music that was positively overwhelming the negativity of the Great Recession.

I think some folks have overlooked those films and concentrate on the ones that were awful. I never see those movies mentioned in discussions about 90s cinema.

Probably 2000. All I ever seem to hear from other people is how much they hated the music, but I absolutely love the music. There were also a lot of funny movies, plus a great balance of technology.

2010 for me.  It seems like the late '00s and early '10s are disliked by a lot of people.  There are good reasons why given the recession and the fact that many people weren't very well off through those years.  For me, they were the best years of my life and I doubt I will ever have another experience that compares.

2008 is also a year that I liked that most other people didn't like. Younger people would probably most likely enjoy 2008 because the recession at the time didn't really affect them.

I'm gonna say 2008 because I love it so much deep in my heart. A lot of the reasons why people say 2008 sucks is because of the recession that somewhat affected a lot of people. I never was affected that much by the recession, since my parents were working hard enough to get a good amount of money.

I mostly hated 2012 because of the crappy pop culture and I was going through puberty at the same time. Not to mention that I was widely bullied during the summer of that year and none of my counselors in my camp did anything to stop it.

And Sandy Hook didn't happen until the very end if the year, so I know when people bring that up they're just throwing sh*t at 2012 to see what sticks.

As for to answer this thread: 2006-07 actually ??? I really liked those years, I felt movies and series were very fairly upbeat without getting into cheesiness, and new things were on the horizon throwing some extra excitement into the bunch. The mid-2000s in general are fairly underrated as a whole imo.

A lot of folks who grew up in the 90's say this year was the death of pop culture and everything that was relevant from the late 90's/early 00's was officially gone by this year, which is true, but that didn't mean 2004 was bad. 2004 was actually one of the best years of the 00's when you think about it. The movies throughout this year were really good, such as Spider-Man 2, Shrek 2, The Day After Tomorrow, The Incredibles (my favorite Pixar movie of all time), Shark Tale, Kill Bill Volume 2, Hellboy, National Treasure, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Mean Girls, The Polar Express, etc. This year for movies was better than 2003 AND 2005 combined. Arguably better than 2002 as well. 2004 is what I call, the most BALANCED year pop culturally of the 00's. 6th generation gaming was at its peak throughout this year as the 2004 releases went on. By then, you had so many games to choose from between the Gamecube, XBOX, and PS2 from 2000-2004. Mario Kart Double Dash came out in late 2003 so that was the craze in 2004 doing multiplayer mode with your friends plus other games such as Madden 04 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Television was very balanced. Nickelodeon was in a transitional year full of diverse lineups. Cartoon Network was in a transitional year full of diverse lineups. Disney Channel was at its peak this year along with Toon Disney still being at its peak most of this year too. Kids WB while way past its prime was the only watchable Saturday Morning block left. Other stations such as Food Network and G4 (TechTV) were killing it this year. Reality shows such as The Amazing Race and American Idol were fun to watch with your family. Shockwave.com was in its prime. While MySpace had just been released in late 2003, the social media still wasn't around yet (technically), especially since this was the year Facebook was only getting started and YouTube still wasn't around yet. So the vibe was still fresh IMO. The early 00's vibe faded away throughout this year but there were still a lot of positives pop culturally.

I think 2012 and 2016 are the worst years for music of this decade so far. 2014 wasn't that bad, I believe 2013 and 2014 weren't that much different for music. I wish I had appreciated 2015 more, I didn't appreciate that year until the end and I look back at the billboard and it was pretty fye. 2017 was a huge improvement from 2016.

2006:  turning 10, finally getting cable, playing the DS and just finally feeling like a big kid. 2017 is anorter year I pick since that year gets a lot of hate for good reasons, but for me it was a great year in particularly the later part of the year where I made some amazing friends and made the Deans list at my college.

2006 is ranked #1 as the greatest summer of my childhood as I've explained on these boards many times, but that was my personal life with all the vacations I went to, the events that happened in my family, and all the friends I made in elementary school. That could have happened any year for anybody. My love for 2006 doesn't have anything to do with the pop culture and it's the pop culture from 2006 that gets hated on being so watered down compared to the previous years of the 2000's, and I agree with that honestly. However, if you love 2006 for its pop culture more than anything, then that's cool for you then! IMO 2005 and 2006 were like cousins. 2005 being the great cooperative cousin and 2006 being the bad misbehaved cousin. 2006 took many hits pop culturally and it was the beginning of the modern technology era in some aspects. There were still positives about that year such as it being the year YouTube came on the rise and the year the Nintendo DS (along with the Lite) officially entered its prime. 2007 was just a much better year pop culturally for a lot of things as explained already on the 2007 thread.
