Subject: Do you want a high-tech and glossy future?

In about 20-100 years, do you want the world to look like this....

OR having the world be mostly similar to how it is now

Personally, I want the world to look similar to today. When I was younger, I was a huge fan of a high-tech, glossy and sleek future similar to The Jetsons and Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (1999). Now, I'm actually scared of a high-tech, glossy future :-X.

What do you guys think?

As long as there's still plants, animals, and sunlight, I'm all for it. 8)

Even Vietnam has restructured its tall buildings in the past 10-15 years. It's shockingly clean now, and looks almost like a normal American city, unlike if you went to Vietnam in 1994, or something like that.

HAHA, if those things didn't exist in the future we would die out in a matter of minutes ;D.

I'd be totally interested in a high tech, glossy future, I would just strongly prefer the new technology to foster intellectual and creative growth, as opposed to just numbing us in the name of convenience.

The 21st century real estate boom in Toronto is putting up a lot of glass condos and buildings, while previously it was defined by 1970s style boxy brick buildings.

I think we all know that it would go mostly the "numbing us" route.

That's normal. Architecture naturally changes over time. However, what if Toronto looked like the first pic I posted? :o

No it looks depressing. I want buildings to have more creativity and look cooler

Well, "look cooler" is based on personal opinion but I do agree that the high-tech future does seem a bit depressing.

There's stuff like Duolingo, KhanAcademy, Coursera, OpenCourseWare, Audible, Safari Books Online, Github etc. I think there have been a lot of cool software and technology that fosters  in the past few years. This knowledge economy more or less necessitates it.  :-X

Oh, I was just showing how a lot of the 'glossy, high-tech' looking future was in some ways already here. ;D

I want future cities to look more green, so I'd prefer it to look more like

I think the some of the coolest urban advancements in the future will be things like urban farming and the ability to build parks and green spaces on or within buildings. :o

Oh OK ;D.

Urban faming is very innovative and a great idea. I hope it will catch on.

I would personally prefer it if our world remained mostly the same as it is now, at least during my lifetime. Society needs to realize that high tech and glossy inventions doesn't necessarily equate to it being any better to what we currently have. We don't need "Jetson" style buildings or modes of transport. Besides, I personally think that the futuristic cities in the original post look soulless and inorganic. As the saying goes, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Not high tech for me, just it now sales the same as I am still around, then anything can do as it's wants.

I don't expect the future to be high tech and glossy but I can see something similar.

I want everything to stay like it is now. It won't be helped though. The endless possibilities of technology is too addictive.

I just want them to make those innocent mouthless robot patrollers that move on wheels because their badass and look positive.

I think similar to now cause these days just about everything will be "green","recyclable" or "reusable".

I don't think I'd be bothered by it now, but the truth is, by the time these changes take place, I'll probably be an old man set in my ways that'll be griping about how good everything used to be back around the "turn of the Millennium". ;D

Think about it like this. Imagine what a man born in 1887 thought about life during the 1950's, with radios, TV sets and cars when he grew up in a world of horse-and-buggy and no electricity? That's what it'll be like for me in the 2050's! :o

Being from New York City this is how the city should look within the next 10-20 years:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/27/nyregion/3-new-bridges-rise-in-new-york-with-looks-that-could-stop-traffic.html

All of these projects will be finished during my lifetime, let alone the mass amounts of projects that have still yet to have been completed :o

I'm from NYC as well (born and raised). I still live here in NYC, those projects are nice but not futuristic like what I'm talking about. I can't wait for those projects to come to fruition.

I actually like the future look from Dragon Ball Z. It looks normal and I bet dome houses are cozy as hell.

I agree! Its post-modern, but nothing too futuristic like in Tron or something.

I have mixed feelings about it tbh. I wouldn't want it to become too high tech to the point where every single thing we do involves technology or something. But at the same time, it looks kind of cool.
