Subject: The Top 100 Hits From When You Were Born
Written By: HazelBlue99 on 02/06/17 at 1:00 am
I thought it would be interesting if we shared the Billboard Top 100 chart, from when we were born.
DOB. 13th March 1999

Personally, the only song I like in that chart is "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)", by The Offspring. Overall, I believe it's an ordinary chart, although there are one or two songs in the chart which aren't too bad.

The Billboard Top 100 Chart did not exist when I born, but the Top 20 did, at number 1 was "Tammy" by Debbie Reynolds. In the UK at number 1 was Paul Anka's "Diana". Both records single word titles with a female forename.
If anyone can locate online the full Billboard chart issued on September 2nd 1957 if would be most appreciated.

I know for a fact that Mariah Carey's Heartbreaker was #1 when I was born.
And since Santana's Smooth followed it a week later and was #1 until like late January 2000 Heartbreaker was "technically" the last billboard hot 100 single completely #1 in the 1990s.

GREAT site, and not just for Billboard, but for so much more. Almost every week from 1942 through 2011 are covered, providing seven decades of music to enjoy, along with a few older issues as well. If you were born in 1980 or later, click on the year on the side, and then you'll come up with the Hot 100 from that year. If you were born before 1980, just click on the individual issue and then look for the "Hot 100" chart. Note that before 1958, this was basically the "Best Selling Pop Singles" chart and usually covered 20-30 hits.
To Philip Eno, if you scroll down to page 47, you'll find the Top 100 Sides chart. This was the working title for the Hot 100 from November 1955 until August 1958, although the traditional Best Sellers In Stores charts were still found. You'll see that in the issue below about 40 percent of the songs are rock/R&B/doo wop oriented, another 40 percent easy listening pop, about 10 percent jazz, and about 10 percent country.

A cool challenge that I like to do is collect 45 RPMs and try to complete a chart so I can fill all 100 slots in my machine with 45s to recreate a particular moment in time. Its basically achievable from around 1953 until around 1989, when 45s started to rapidly be discontinued from record labels.
I basically use the first chart date after the current date to represent the Hot 100 of that time, and thus, my birth Hot 100 (Feb. 23, 1985, the day after I was born) includes Careless Whisper by George Michael/Wham! at the top, Billy Ocean's Lover Boy second, Autograph's Turn Up The Radio just making the Top 40, and Julian Lennon's former Top 10 hit Valotte at #100. In addition to Careless Whisper, other future/past #1 hits included REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling, Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is, Madonna's Like A Virgin, Phil Collins One More Night, Simple Minds Don't You (Forget About Me), and Hall & Oates Out of Touch.

I was surprised to see Terry Jacks "Seasons In the Sun" as #1 on the charts.

I'm not sure if its your browser or if there is a special restriction in your country, but it works on mine. You could also try the first link I posted as well and then click on the appropriate issue.

Considering that I wasn't born until Tuesday afternoon the closest I could come up with was the Billboard Hot 100 charts for Friday September 5, 1976. ABBA was #1 with Dancing Queen. It's no wonder I've grown to hate that song? I was probably listening to it in utero and after I came out!
