Subject: Desert Island Question: Artists
Written By: Knew Wave on 10/18/16 at 9:11 pm
You're stranded on the proverbial desert island. It's a miracle that it has batteries and electricity. ;) Pick a top ten from one artist from each decade to listen to before you're rescued. You can't repeat artists, and the songs come from just that decade.
'40s: Frank Sinatra
'50s: Chuck Berry
'60s: The Beatles
'70s: The Rolling Stones
'80s: U2
'90s: Depeche Mode
'00s: The Killers
'10s: Adele

2000s - Rachel Stevens
For those who haven't figured it out on their own, Rachel Stevens is actually the woman in my avatar. She's certainly nowhere near as talented a musician as Kate Bush, seeing her only writing credit is co-writing the Joe Pesci song (thankfully excellent stuff), but she does at least have a solid voice that does justice to the surprisingly memorable and cutting edge pop songs she recorded in the mid-2000s. She's also darn attractive – she was actually sort of my first celebrity crush back in 2004 when I saw the cover for the Some Girls single (promoted as part of the British Now 58) – and was even voted FHM's sexiest woman of all time. From what I've read about her, she seems like a rather non pretentious person, considering her stint with a teen pop group, beauty, and lack of creative involvement. I guess I'm rambling on a bit for what clearly seems like a biased choice, but seeing how mediocre the 2000s were for music anyway, I guess I may as well go with a playlist for the pop artist who a big part of me wishes I was.
1. I Said Never Again (But Here We Are)
2. Some Girls
3. Sweet Dreams My LA Ex
4. Crazy Boys
5. Gangsta Love (technically an S Club song, but she's the primary vocalist)
6. Fools
7. Glide
8. Funny How
9. Breathe In Breathe Out
10. I Will Be There
2010s - Arctic Monkeys
As much as I really wish I could include songs from their 2006 debut, AM is still easily one of the best albums of this decade, and Suck It and See is pretty decent as well, though it also happened to be released on the worst day of my life (June 6, 2011).
1. Do I Wanna Know?
2. R U Mine?
3. Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
4. Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
5. Reckless Serenade
6. Suck It and See
7. One for the Road
8. Snap Out of It
9. She's Thunderstorms
10. Black Treacle
I haven't listened to enough from the 40s or 50s to really make a list out of those decades, although I will say the 40s artist would probably be Thelonious Monk, while I'd likely go with Frank Sinatra for the 50s.

That was a great post, #Infinity! Your lists were a pleasant surprise. You mentioned Billy Joel, one of my fave artists. He would have been on my list if I could have combined the '80s and the '90s. He had so many great songs in both decades. I would have chosen him over the Rolling Stones if all of his best songs would have been from one decade. Both critics and fans loved him through the years, and that was shown by both awards and sales. He placed just under artists, like the Beatles, on the music charts.

Do you have a second choice after Adele? It's hard for me to pick fave artists from the '10s. Maybe I could pick Coldplay or Muse, when I think about it. Thank goodness for Adele, though!

I'm honestly not a big fan of 2010s music, so it's hard to choose what musicians do I like from this decade. Maybe Bruno Mars, since his music is decent.

He's one of the best on the radio right now. It's weird that the '00s are so much better than the '10s.

It's subjective, but personally I like it better than the 2010s.

It's interesting to compare Top Forty charts. It gives you a look at declining musical quality IMO.

1990s - Pearl Jam
I was tossing up between Pearl Jam and Nirvana for the 90s, although in all honesty, I could easily have picked a few other bands from the 90s as well. Although, considering the fact that I have liked Pearl Jam since I was 5, I decided to go with them. ;)

6. Daughter
7. Do the Evolution
8. Go

7. Nobody's Listening
8. Easier to Run
9. Numb
10. Forward (i'm sure other Linkin Park fans will get this joke. :P)
I skipped the 80s, as I honestly don't like enough songs from one particular band or artist to make a list from.
