Subject: Aughts Rihanna vs 2010s Rihanna
Written By: ArcticFox on 03/14/16 at 1:30 pm
Rihanna is one of the biggest stars of the 21st century. She may even be the biggest. She has done so well to change her image and adapt to the times. Most occasions, she changed them. She has a tremendous amount of popular songs on the charts around the world in her short career of only 11 years. How can she not? She is very charismatic. Her music is gender flexible and age flexible - she doesn't make music exclusively for 16 year old girls. I will give you a rundown of every album she has released thus far with every single she has released to promote each one, both USA and international exclusive.

Work
She has made a wide impact on the music business in only 11 short years. Look at how far she's come since she began. Debuting as the bland, Beyoncé rip-off island girl and transforming into a trend-setter with her own musical identity, she is perhaps the biggest superstar of the Millennial generation. I never paid attention to how much fans debate which is her best era. I always focused on her present day career. As for her new album Anti, it is so good! It is not a singles work - it is a genuine album. You have to listen to the whole album to really appreciate the art piece. Even previewing the album on iTunes isn't enough to grasp this work. Yes, there are some skippable songs (if you get the deluxe edition; "Needed Me" is really weird. "Pose" and "Sex With Me" are unspectacular), but unfortunately you will lose the album's message if you skip "Needed Me". This album has completely embraced her vulnerability. A woman inching ever close to 30, one of the albums topics is her dealing with getting older. Unfortunately, fans haven't been completely receptive to this new album. After a tremendously successful career, she has conditioned her fan base into accepting singles - not full albums. Regardless of whether they accept it or not, this is the beginning of her path towards becoming a serious artist and the shedding of her superstar status. I'd say give it a good 4-5 years and after that she won't be relevant in the pop singles market anymore. She'll move on from that career.
So what are your guy's thoughts on Rihanna? Which era do you like best? Which era got you interested? What's your favorite song from her? For me, Rihanna had me hooked with the Rated R era, and I've been following her ever since.

I always thought she was a really versatile pop musician during the second half of the 2000s. Nowadays, she's either recording repetitive "shock value" music like "B**** Better Have My Money" or just following current trends. So, definitely 2000s Rihanna.

2007-2012 Rihanna was the best for me personally.

I've been following her since she began back in 2005. At first, she made songs that people could dance to, but then later on, her music would mature beginning with Rated R. I noticed in her themes, her songs seems to be about a variety of things. In some, there are the party tracks; some have the serious tracks and others have a balanced set. For the eras, I like both of them as many of her songs are popular and great to listen to. I haven't heard her new album yet, but I will give it a chance.

Definitely the early years. Her first two albums were very fun. I liked a few of her songs from the next two. But I haven't cared for her music in the 2010's.

I was never the biggest Rihanna listener to begin with, but I thought her work in the mid-late 00s was alright. However, her music now in the 2010s is just repulsive . I cannot find anything positive about the 2010s Rihanna. I know that sounds harsh, but that's how I honestly feel about her music now.

I can't stand her "Work, Work, Work, Work, Work" song. I mean, can there be ANY song that doesn't have to deal with twerking or lame electronic sounds nowadays?
