Subject: 100 Years of Beauty

Written By: 2001 on 02/13/16 at 4:44 pm

I found these videos on YouTube a few months ago and I thought they were really cool!

White women USA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOyVvpXRX6w

Black women USA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTp9c9bsY_Q

White men USA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-tJ5erxh4Y

They haven't made one for black men yet but I hope they do soon.

The 2010s and 1930s styles for the women are my favourites  ;D 2000s for the men though, but I only remember that style being popular in the really late 2000s, like 2008-2012...

You can tell some picture or video looks modern even when a person is trying so hard to look like someone from about the 80's or before.

What do you mean?

Also which one was your favourite  ;D

What do you mean?

For example, look at REAL photos of women from the 50's or 60's with that black and white quality, their widow's peak, hair styles, their facial features, etc. You can just tell instantly when it's from the 50's, 60's, 70's, etc.

People can create a movie or commercial and dress so hard enough to pretend that they are from the 50's or 60's but it's obvious that it's still a modern sketch or movie of people pretending that they are from that time period.

For example, look at this commercial.

rAw2TXsgBbY

Now you know this is modern! Instantly! Their facial features and genetics look like a human from present day.

Now look at this photo on the bottom.

It's OBVIOUS that it's from 70's or 80's, because of the quality of the photo and look at the hairstyles, the facial features, look at that woman's hair in the background. People aren't trying hard to style like this because it was the norm back then!

I see what you mean. I think they were just going for popular facial exprand essions instead of natural ones, e.g. the white girl copying Monroe for the 50s or the black girl copying Billie Holiday for the 40s. I don't think everyone squinted their eyes and threw their head back in laughter in the 50s lol. And I'm not sure about the genetics comment, the 70s were only 40 years ago not 4,000 haha.

I've seen all of these. The men's video is a little inaccurate. All of them are too narrow-minded though. The '60s and '90s and 2010's had a lot more diverse hairstyles, instead of just one look. The men's '80s hairstyle actually belongs in the '90s section. The '80s should have had a mullet. They are mostly portraying extremely niché hairdos, which is really evident looking at the men's '70s, '90s, and '10s pictures.

The woman's is surprisingly accurate, although it could have been done better. They would have had to actually cut and dye her hair though.

I agree. The men's video is a lot more stereotypical than the women's ones. It went for the iconic styles rather than the common ones. The '80s one is a mullet though, isn't it? It's not a very long one, but it's still a mullet. For the '90s I would have went for curtain hair. For the 2000s, I would not have shaved off his sides, he would have a perfect 2005 David Beckham look. For 2010s I would obviously go for an undercut side parting, or even the put the 2000s one in the 2010s, since that style was still dominant in the early '10s. Manbuns??  8-P 8-P I hope my future children don't watch that one lol.

The white woman I liked the 2000's the best. The 1990 style just looked :"there" with nothing really special about it. It was flat and long. I did like 2010's, 1970's, and 1950's in that particular order.

The Black Woman-I liked the 1970's and 2010's the best.

The 2010's White Mens look looks weird.

The 2000s white woman one is definitely Avril Lavigne. All the girls at school wanted to look like her and dress like her. ;D I think the 90s is supposed to be Jennifer Anniston, I can't say for sure. It is indeed very bland.

1970s for the black woman was my favourite as well :) The 2010s style for the white male is the "manbun". I don't like it very much either.

Yeah Avril had that long hair in the 2000's that the white woman had in the video. As for the 90's one Emma Watson wasn't around in the 90's. Jennifer Aniston she had down to her shoulders with "The Rachel Cut". She got rid of the "Rachel Cut" in 1996 I think because she didn't want to be famous just for a haircut. The 90's white girl in that video had more of a Sarah Michelle Gellar or Angelina Jolie hairstyle going on I think for the 90's. I think 80's hairstyles were still going on into the 1993-1994 school year for women.

Haha, yeah, caught that. Didn't know what I was thinking ;D

The 80s one reminds me a bit of Madonna. Who popularized the side ponytail?

The 1940s for the black woman is Billie Holiday. I recognized it from a mile away.
