Subject: Thoughts on the disney direct to dvd/vhs sequels?
Written By: Eazy-EMAN1995 on 10/31/15 at 6:05 pm
Well guys, did you guys love them or HATE them? Some of them such as the Aladdin sequels and Lion King 2 have gotten postitve buzz, on the other hand MANY of the sequels have gotten negative reception.

Most of them are garbage in my opinion. They are quick ways to cash in on the success of a masterpiece but the sequels are almost always very inferior to the original.
The exception is the Lion King 2 and Return of Jafar, both of which are pretty good.

For the vast part, these sequels are corporate exploitation at its worst. They're essentially the predecessors to those ridiculous Planes movies, which were produced by the same studio. The best you can hope for with these is a plot gimmick that explores the original from a fresh angle (i.e., Cinderella III's alternate timeline and The Lion King 1/2 being to the original film what Rosencrantz & Guildernstern are Dead was to Hamlet), but otherwise, they're incredibly underwhelming, especially when compared to the originals that they were based off of. The songs are all uninspired aside from the ones in Aladdin and the King of Thieves, most premises are just cookie cutter love stories without the same level of peril as the traditional canon, and the new villains are embarrassing and outdated.
