Subject: Documentaries - Watch and Learn

Written By: danootaandme on 06/06/12 at 5:28 am

Eevrything is movies, and television.  Time to jump into the world of documentaries.  They are relevant, interesting, and informative(it shouldn't be a scary word), but for some reason the step-child of the entertainment world.  What are the ones you think people should see?

I recently watched the documentary on Prohibition.  It may have been a Ken Burns film also.  It was very interesting.

Yes, that was him.  It was good, but not one of his better ones.

I'm currently watching Ken Burns' "The War" about WWII on DVD.  SO GOOD!!

I agree that the Civil War was also amazing.  Wouldn't mind seeing that one again.

I saw some of the Prohibition documentary but no all of it.

This is currently running on PBS.  It is about transgenders and how they were once revered in the Navajo culture, but, of course Christianity came and in the name of Jesus said kill them.

Every American should watch The Civil War.  It is so engrossing, and there is so much that explains a lot of what goes on even today.

I was flipping channels, though I would find out what it was all about.  Have watched it twice.

Two that I haven't seen but have wanted to for a while now:

Food, Inc.An unflattering look inside America's corporate controlled food industry

Life in a Day A documentary shot by filmmakers all over the world that serves as a time capsule to show future generations what it was like to be alive on the 24th of July, 2010.

One that I did watch and found it very good:

World War II In Color
A collection of rare and unseen footage of World War II

One that I have recently heard very good things about and would like to see:
"Autism: The Musical"

Miss Representation was very, very good. My daughter and I watched that together.

I also loved the nature documentary "Life, narrated by Oprah". It was fascinating!
And although I guess they wouldn't be considered true documentaries, I watch her Lifeclass shows and Master Class shows as well.
