Jimmy Cliff is a reggae musician from Jamaica, man! Though he's had over 2 dozen albums since 1968, he has not had many charted singles between North America and the UK, but what he did have is quite memorable ...

I most remember his cover of "I Can See Clearly Now," which was from the soundtrack of Cool Runnings.

His real name is James Chambers. No idea why he changed it.

Rather odd how one of his more 'famous' songs failed to chart anywhere...'The Harder They Come' (from the film of the same name)...
His covers don't really improve upon the originals, but there's no doubting the brilliance of some of his originals...'Wonderful World' being a highlight (I was brought up on that!)

I am glad to see 'Many Rivers to Cross' charted somewhere. I was starting to think UB40 were the first ones to make it a hit

I guess one could say he was quite popular in this neck of the woods.
I am glad to see 'Many Rivers to Cross' charted somewhere. I was starting to think UB40 were the first ones to make it a hit
Let's not forget Marcia Hines took the song to #21 in Dutch Top 40 in 1982. I think that precedes the UB 40 version. ;)
