Subject: History of Women's Fashion, 1795 - 1948
Written By: Mat1991 on 12/11/10 at 6:08 am
This is a Youtube video that features a montage of women's fashion from 1795 until 1948. I thought it was very interesting to see how fashion evolved over the years. My favorite era for fashion was the 1790s, early 19th century, and late 19th century.

I like most fashion from the 1880s-early 1960s. skip the 1970s, and all of the 1980s. I have a pretty broad liking of old fashion. It was glamourous and femiminine. (excluding the androg of the 80s, but I loved Prince looking like a mini-drag queen...) ::)
I'm really into the Victorian thing as I'm putting together notes for a fanfic I'm writing for a messageboard, and Ive even started doing sketches of dresses I imagine, albeit they are rudinentary at best because I'm still learning sillouhettes from the era.

Finally, a response! :D
I like the Victorian era, too. Fashion aside, there seems to be a kind of peaceful charm that I get from the Victorian era.
Women's fashion for most of the Victorian era was definitely very elaborate until the 1880s when it started to get less showy. I couldn't imagine dressing like that on a daily basis, and yet it's fun to look at at the same time.

1 karma for the video. Amazing!!
My most favorite 20th century decade for fashion is the 50's, but I don't know about other centuries.

Way cool. I could so wear a lot of those fashions-except the ones with the bustles. Whoever thought that bustles looked good is beyond me. ::)

The history of everything tends to be written about the well to do. I have found myself drawn to the history of majority of the people. As with everything, it would look different from that point of view.

...and a little known fact is that at the turn of the 16th-17th century (1799-1800s) exposed nipples were not uncommon.
