Subject: There will be no tommorrow for Annie.
Written By: JamieMcBain on 07/26/10 at 11:48 am
As of June 13, it will be a Hard Knock Life, for Annie and Sandy, who after 85 years in newspapers, will be retired, and going the way of Bloom County, Peanuts, and Calvin and Hobbes.
The good news? She will be heading back to Broadway, this fall.

I guess it used pretty boilerplate scenarios, so it wasn't hard to keep the comic strip going all that time.
It's like "Peanuts." Schultz ran out of ideas in 1973 and was on auto-pilot for twenty-five years.
It took Bil Keane ("Family Circus") thirty-five years to get the mother out of that pageboy haircut!

My favorite Family Cirus quote...
"And it's always there, in the lower right hand corner, just waiting to suck."

I dunno. It's gotten pretty funny these days.

My favorite comic spoof is still "Garfield minus Garfield." It doesn't so much spoof Garfield as it does unveil Jon's psychosis!

Cathy was up there with Steve Roper & Mike Nomad and Apartment 3G. I knew they were there but I didn't read them because they obviously sucked!

After a few beers, y'know, you can read Cathy and think...

But then you sober up, and...

Yeah, it's kinda like that.

I used to read Cathy but after a while, it was all the same. There was nothing that kept it fresh and new. Just became boring.

And since Maxwell brought it up, and since it's half of your name, yeah, why hasn't Jim Davis just hung it up, or since there's an XKCD for every thread on the Internet, why doesn't Garfield go out like this?

Although Jim Davis came pretty close in 1989.

I don't care what Davis said about it. It wasn't a dream, Garfield. It was real. The poor cat's been dead for more than 20 years, and he still hasn't figured it out.

And there it was in 1982, just waiting for the right pubescent boy to hate it.
I know, I was that boy!
