Subject: Bands with messages
Written By: slacker on 06/22/10 at 7:41 pm
OK, name a band (any era/genre) that had a consistent message(s).
It may be political or otherwise, but the message(s) should be apparent
in at least 1/4 or their music.
I'll start it off with...
Midnight Oil
Australian band who consistently sang out for
for the environment and the aboriginal people.
Anyone else?

Well there seems to be plenty of Gay Themes out there... ;D
How about something a little different ???
Frank Zappa and The Mother's of Invention
They offer a creative satire on society and
a lack of respect for the establishment.
and when it came to baby names, I don't think he got these out of a book 8)
Dweezil and Moon Unit

No kiddin' I was listening to "Freak Out" just yesterday. Zappa was a composer whose principal forms were rock 'n' roll and satire. Would Frank satire me? Yes. That's how he related to the world. I sure wish he was still in it.

Mojo Nixon: Libertarians have better senses of humor than Objectivists :)
Skinny Puppy: Vegetarians and animal-rights activists don't have to be wimps, but humans are gonna eat everything up, and it's gonna suck.
A Split Second: Cybernetically-enhanced humans will burn everything out, but they'll start with their emotions, so it'll be cool.
Front Line Assembly: Giant cybernetic robots will blow everything up, including the humans, and it's gonna be awesome!

That was one of many problems with Severed Heads, who got lumped in S. Puppy and ASS. Whereas Skinny Puppy would pick a sample from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Tom Ellard would pick a sample of Wallace Shawn from "My Dinner With Andre." Tom did what Tom wanted to do instead of trying imitate Leeb, Cey, and Ogre. Tom is just not a scary or menacing kind of guy. Severed Heads was just a name they used in Australian cassette culture, along with Mr. and Mrs. No Smoking Sign.
