Subject: Elevator Music (Muzak) - Any fans?
Written By: midnite on 09/15/09 at 9:37 pm
I was riding an elevator down from the 40th floor today and was pleasantly surprised by a great tune. I must admit that some elevator music is enjoyable. Of course there are some terrible "muzak" tunes as well (Peter Cetera comes to mind). Here are a couple favorite elevator songs:
Percy Faith - Theme From A Summer Place

Santo & Johnny - Sleepwalk

Ah, Muzak in an elevator.
I remember *Classic* Muzak with its own instrumental versions of popular songs.
It's been awhile since I've heard those.
I also remember back around 1991 a local radio station that played current, '70s and even '80s hair band songs - and was a little different than most radio stations - once slipped in the instrumental Muzak version of Elton John's "Your Song" in its evening set of tunes.
Totally out of place, pretty bizarre, yet truly unforgettable.

The Girl from Ipanema

I rarely hear music in an elevator these days.
Anyway, whenever I think of "elevator music" I think of the soft music that played at my doctor's office when I was a kid. ;D

The Blues Brothers elevator scene music ?
Yep. That it was.
I want to say it was on the elevator to the Space Shuttle in the movie "Simon", with Alan Arkin.
And it was ironic, because the character Simon (Alan Arkin) earlier did a tirade on how elevator music was destroying the American culture (along with other things, like Col. Sanders and Orange Julius keeping their recipies secret).
I lost my copy of the movie years ago, but it is in my Amazon list, and will be ordered as soon as I get home next year. :)

I'm not a fan of elevator music but there are a few tunes I like such as "Love Is Blue", "Girl From Ipanema", and "If You Leave Me Now"
