Subject: What's the first album or '45 or CD you ever bought?
Written By: Frank on 04/04/09 at 2:42 am
I think the first album I ever bought was a K-TEL album from the early 70's, can't remember which one..which led to other K-Tel albums.
The 1st "Non K-TEL" album I got was "The Beatles 62-66" (RED)

The first '45 I had was (and I'm guessing) Imagine - John Lennon
The first CD? I think it was "A trick of the tail" Genesis

I didn't buy vinyl until I bought my stereo system in 1987. Until then all I had were boomboxes and cassettes. I had a LOT of cassettes. The problem with commercial cassettes was the fidelity was not so great. There was a period in the mid to late '80s when the fidelity of cassettes went way up because record companies were trying to kill off the LP.
I call 45s 7" singles because 12" singles were often pressed at 45 rpm.

Yep, I had both of these. I was actually a HUGE Howard Jones fan in his New Song--Things Can Only Get Better period. HoJo was actually my first concert. Not to diss Howie, but I sure wish I'd gone to the Talking Heads show...that way I could say Talking Heads was my first!

Oh well, you don't get to do it over again!

Cassette: Black Bear Road, C.W. McCall 1975
Karma for even mentioning C.W. McCall... :)
I had the record, along with Wolf Creek Pass. I LOVED those records! Black Bear Road is such a funny song...

I do have the Convoy single somewhere, but it was not one of the first brought singles.

The Convoy .45? Cool...
The CW records were not my first but among the first. I also had a board game called Convoy - the brief trucker craze in the seventies...

My mom bought most of the music I heard in the actual 80s, so that doesn't count. The first few I bought with my own money (don't remember what was first though) were tapes, this was around 1992 so I was probably 10...
Weird Al- Greatest Hits #1
Eddie Money- Cant Hold Back (the one with "Take Me Home Tonight")
Ghostbusters Soundtrack
Lionel Richie- Back to Front (has "Do it to Me" along with some hits)
Billboard Top Hits of 1984
Weird Al- Off the Deep End (when it was brand new)

That I bought? Hmmm, let me think:
45: I don't know if I ever bought any 45s. I have a few but I believe they were all given to me.
Album: That was way back in the dark ages. I must have been about 14-15 when I first had an allowance that was enough to spend on records (and eventually I bought my first stereo at the age of 15). It might have been Too Old To Rock and Roll (and Too Young to Die)-by Jethro Tull (or else that was given to me-can't remember)
CD: I think my first CD was the Animals Greatest Hits.
