The first in the nine-book Star Wars: Fate of The Jedi series, Outcast takes place almost 40 years after the end of Return of The Jedi. Veteran writer Aaron Allston kicks off a new adventure in which Luke and his son Ben, must discover the truth behind Jacen Solo's descent into the dark side, a mission which leads Luke to strike a dangerous bargain with the enigmatic leader of the Galactic Alliance, Natasi Daala.

Product Description
THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE EXTRAORDINARY HISTORY OF THE STAR WARS GALAXY BEGINS HERE. . . .

After a violent civil war and the devastation wrought by the now-fallen Darth Caedus, the Galactic Alliance is in crisis–and in need. From all corners, politicians, power brokers, and military leaders converge on Coruscant for a crucial summit to restore order, negotiate differences, and determine the future of their unified worlds. But even more critical, and far more uncertain, is the future of the Jedi.

In a shocking move, Chief of State Natasi Daala orders the arrest of Luke Skywalker for failing to prevent Jacen Solo’s turn to the dark side and his subsequent reign of terror as a Sith Lord. But it’s only the first blow in an anti-Jedi backlash fueled by a hostile government and suspicious public. When Jedi Knight Valin Horn, scion of a politically influential family, suffers a mysterious psychotic break and becomes a dangerous fugitive, the Jedi become the target of a media-driven witch hunt. Facing conviction on the damning charges, Luke must strike a bargain with the calculating Daala: his freedom in exchange for his exile from Coruscant and from the Jedi Order.

Though forbidden to intervene in Jedi affairs, Luke is determined to keep history from being repeated. With his son, Ben, at his side, Luke sets out to unravel the shocking truth behind Jacen Solo’s corruption and downfall. But the secrets he uncovers among the enigmatic Force mystics of the distant world Dorin may bring his quest–and life as he knows it–to a sudden end. And all the while, another Jedi Knight, consumed by the same madness as Valin Horn, is headed for Coruscant on a fearsome mission that could doom the Jedi Order . . . and devastate the entire galaxy.

I think it sounds cool!  I've been a fan of the films since Episode 4 came out-yes I'm OLD. But I've never gotten into any of the stories that took place after Jedi.  My son, who is now almost 9 is very into them too, and I just read this to him and I had to explain who everyone was, and am just wondering-where does one start in these after series books?  Is there a first book after Jedi that takes place where Jedi left off?  Or are they all several years after, like this one?

I remember seeing a book 5 or 6 years ago that was about Han and Leia having children and he was never around, but I didn't buy it.  It looks like you really are up on this-can you tell me the best place to start with these books?  Or are they all very different?  Matthew thought it was cool that Luke named his son after Obi Wan.

Thanks!!

Another series I'm behind on?  And from what anabel says, maybe more than one....

I'll wait for Tam to answer anabel's question about the other book(s).

I'll try and remember to ask James.  He's read several of the Star Wars books in the New Jedi Order series I think (they're all just Star Wars books to me).  From what I remember some of the books James has read are set before Episode 1 and some were after episode 6.  I can certainly recall one with Leia as a diplomat or something.

^ James might definitely be the person to answer.

I haven't kept up with the books personally, the information above was taken from the review of the book on amazon.
I never really read the other episodes, because I was completely content with the 6 that went to movie. ;D
But I believe that this Aaron guy has sealed the rights to write from Lucas....
