Subject: Spanish Music/Artists of all Decades
Written By: Henk on 01/26/09 at 4:22 pm
Since we already have a thread on French music and one on Italian music... ::) ;)
(Don't worry: I won't be starting a thread on Dutch music .... any time soon! :P)
Any Spanish songs / music / artists you like in particular? ??? Post 'em here. I'll start..
This young girl won the Junior European Song Contest a couple of years ago, and her song is still ringing in my ears.
Maria-Isabel - Antes Muerte Que Sencilla
As far as I know, "Antes Muerte Que Sencilla" means something like "I'd rather die than be boring" - but I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong.
Another haunting song: Mecano - Hijo De La Luna

Henk!...thanks, for starting this thread. I was gonna do one myself, but you beat me to it. Karma+1
Anyhoo...there are numerous Spanish-language songs that I enjoy.
To start with, there are the four Spanish tracks on Shakira's Laundry Service:
Te Dejo Madrid
Que Me Quedes Tu
Suerte (Whenever Wherever in Spanish)
Te Avicio, Te Anuncio (Objection Tango in Spanish)
Recently, I found out about a song called "Mi Destino Eres Tu", by an artist named Lucero. I listened to it on Youtube a while back and posted the link to it; if I can find it I'll point it out one more time.
Edit: I also enjoy both the Spanish and English versions of "Arrasando/It's My Party" by Thalia.

'The Ketchup Song (Asereje)' by Las Ketchup. It was cheesy, but catchy. I think I have the CD Single of it packed away lol
And how about that late 70s classic 'Yes Sir, I Can Boogie' by Baccara
And who can forget the greatly overplayed 'Macarena' by Los Del Rio / Los Del Mar
Los Del Rio were the ones who took it to #1 (or near #1) world-wide, but it was Los Del Mar who had the #1 hit with it in Canada. Even though they are from Spain, their version qualified for CANCON because of singer Wil Veloz

I'll also give you "Jarabe de Palo" and its "Depende"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTvhW8lDHFk
Que el blanco sea blanco
que el negro sea negro
que uno y uno sean dos
como exactos son los números
Depende
Que aquí estamos de prestao
que el cielo esta nublao
que uno nace y luego muere
y este cuento se ha acabao
Depende
Depende ¿de qué depende?
de según como se mire, todo depende
Que bonito es el amor
mas que nunca en Primavera
que mañana sale el sol
y que estamos en Agosto
Depende
que con el paso del tiempo
el vino se hace bueno
que to lo que sube, baja
de abajo arriba y de arriba abajo
Depende
Depende ¿de qué depende?
de según como se mire, todo depende
Que no has conocido a nadie
Depende
y si quiere decir si
cada vez que abres la boca
que te hace muy feliz
que sea el día de tu boda
Depende
Depende ¿de qué depende?
de según como se mire, todo depende
Do you know waht it means jarabe de palo ? ;)

I'm not surprised about your first one election, it's normal indeed.
A "whistledog without ketchup" is like a flower-pot without flowers, as to what it's said by here. ;)

No me has llamado estoy desesperado
OH EH OH
Viviendo sin ti
Y no aguanto, me duele tanto estar así
Rayando el sol
A tu casa yo fui, y no te encontré

No quiero estar asi
No quiero andar asi
Derramare mis sueños si algun dia no te tengo

Did you hear "Pongamos que hablo de Madrid" ?
Joaquin Sabina singing along with Rosario Flores a famous gipsy singer who performs pop music in flamenco style.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot95xqjElvY
no me despiertes, déjame dormir.
Aquí he vivido, aquí quiero quedarme.

I hardly ever listen to any Spanish-language music, but there was this one song by Nek called "La Vida Es" from 2000 that I found incredibly infectious when I heard it on the radio:

Pedro Guerra - Contaminame
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RK8BTURLhs

Good tender song Dizzy ;)
Ellas me haran mas fuerte.

Of course. I know both the original version, by Richie Valens...and the 1987 cover by Los Lobos. Weird Al recorded a parody of the latter version and called it "Lasagna"; I enjoy that one. :D
