Probably not (LOL), but have you ever wondered what kind of music they had back then?

Bono (of U2) once said he came up with the idea for "Pride (In the Name of Love)" based on the humming sound he'd hear when driving over a bridge.  If the hum of a bridge can inspire a world-wide smash hit, it makes you wonder, did the early cave dwellers find a catchy beat in the sounds of the rocks hitting the cave walls as they drew hyroglyphics?

My BIG question here is, have you ever found a melody out of something that you wouldn't think could have a beat?  Sometimes when I sit in traffic with my blinker on, I tap my fingers to the click and make my own beat ;D

Back in 1994 I was driving back from Clemson SC to Raleigh NC by way of Charlotte and I didn't have a stereo in my car.  The bumps on the road for NC Highway 49 kinda had the beat of "Mexican Radio" by Wall Of Voodoo at 55-60 mph. ;D

Funny I always heard Duke of Earl when I did this

  While driving from Illinois to California I remember pushing on what I assume was a small section of sheet metal that had slightly buckled under the floormat with my foot.  It would make two dull clicking sounds when I pushed on it and so I began playing this new musical instrument.  Soon I found a beat that sounded alot like "A Texas State of Mind" by David Frizzell...

There was a "talent" show in the UK in the seventies that had some woman who played the saw, the garden hose pipe and a metal office chair.  I often wondered how it occurred to her to try them as instruments.

I also have dim memories of people using a bicycle pump on their stomach as a musical instrument.  :-\\

There was a saw player on the last series of Britain's Got Talent, and he was good.

What I find fascinating is that music is such an important part of humanity. EVERY culture-even isolated groups in the Amazon, have some form of music and dance. Whether it be pounding a beat with some rocks or sticks to creating complex musical instruments such as a Stradivarius violin or a Les Paul guitar and everything in between.


Music TRULY is the international language. You don't need to speak Italian to enjoy an opera or speak English to enjoy a Beatles' tune.
