I need a list of songs with great harmonies.  What are your favorites?

I love "Near Wild Heaven" by REM from their "Out Of Time"; it's dreamy!

I've always been a sucker for, "More Than Words"....by Extreme. They have great harmony!  Hey...what do ya say...you take one part, I'll take the other..I always wanted to sing this song!! :)

This is another one that's just too hard... but here goes anyway!

I'll leave out non instrumental singing bands (eg Boys2Men, Manhatten Transfer etc). Their harmonies are fantastic but I'll just go with full bands (ie play their own instuments).

I'll Play For You - Seals and Croft
Helplessly Hoping - Crosby Stills & Nash (and pretty much anything else they sing)
Seven Bridges Road - The Eagles (ditto)
It's a Long Way There - Little River Band (ditto)
Leader of the Band - Dan Fogelberg (ditto)

Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of silence or The Boxer...

I love all the suggestions here. keep them coming!  we are currently working on "you don't have to cry" by CSN
and "seven bridges road" is in the works.  I like the idea of an REM song!

Belle du Jour, Are you talking duo or 3 to 4 part harmony? Obviously, If 2 part, certain songs would lend themselves better (eg Simon and Garfunkel, Seals and Croft etc), If 3 or more parts CSN, America, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac are more the go....

Wow..that will be some serious harmonising. I'd love to hear how you're going with Seven Bridges Road. CSN's Carry On/Questions and Suite Judy Blue Eyes would be a challenge. You could also do Doobies or Bee Gees songs.....

I love that version of Whiter shade of pale..
Neil Young..After the gold rush: but the trio did it (emmylou harris, dolly parton and linda ronstadt) and it was really great.
I like the two voices on Free Man in Paris (joni mitchell)
and Your Move by Yes is great.

Taco's 1983 version of Singin' in the Rain.  The way he hits those almost sheep-like high notes was just wonderful.  Of course the song itself sung is great, in any version that I've ever heard

yeah. we like bands like the spinners; we do them already...if we expamd out of the 70s all the songs you mentioned in this thread are great.  i can't wait to get back from vacation and work on CSN!!!!

Listening a lot to Chicago lately. Excellent tunes with great harmonies. Not certain what to do about replicating the brass/horns though...

I just misread this as 'songs with great hair'  ;D

The Police did some great harmonizing on Roxanne.

It was interesting to compare the younger Bee Gees and the later. Not much changed really....they looked like they had fun on stage. It's sad that Maurice (and The Bee Gees) are no more.  I suspect Barry couldn't keep hitting THOSE high notes too much longer anyway...

I always suspected that Barry wore his shorts just a little bit too tight so he could hit those notes.  :D ;D ;D

does hip hop R&B count? I've also been partial to anything by Boyz II Men...

but also there's a song by a bunch of well known R&B artists (think along the lines of We Are the World) collectively they call themselves BMU (Black Men United) the song is called U Will Know.

Also... Bone Thugs and Harmony... Crossroads.
