Subject: Meaningful song lyrics
Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 12/10/07 at 4:01 am
Is there a song that the lyrics just touch your soul, or make you feel like the artist was speaking directly to you?
One that always meant something to me was: Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?...by Bryan Adams
The words are just so beautiful to this song. THIS is how I want to be treated by a man...wouldn't that be cool?
This line has always been the one to get me:
And when you can see your unborn children in her eyes ...
You know you really love a woman. :)
Bryan Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?
To really love a woman,
To understand her,
You've got to know her deep inside ...
Hear every thought,
See every dream,
And give her wings when she wants to fly.
Then when you find yourself lying helpless in her arms ...
You know you really love a woman
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's really wanted.
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's the one.
'Cause she needs somebody, to tell her that it's gonna last forever.
So tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved awoman?
To really love a woman,
Let her hold you,
Till you know how she needs to be touched.
You've got to breathe her, really taste her,
'Til you can feel her in your blood.
And when you can see your unborn children in her eyes ...
You know you really love a woman.
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's really wanted.
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's the one.
'Cause she needs somebody, to tell her that you'll always be together
So tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved awoman?
You've got to give her some faith,
Hold her tight, a little tenderness.
You've got to treat her right.
She will be there for you taking good care of you ...
You really gotta love your woman yeah.
And when you find yourself lying helpless in her arms,
You know you really love a woman.
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's really wanted.
When you love a woman,
You tell her that she's the one.
She needs somebody, to tell her that it's gonna last forever.
So tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved a woman?
yeah
Just tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved a woman?
Oh Just tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved a woman?

"Stacy's Mom" ;) ;D
Well, seriously I totally agree with Adams on that one. Even if I'm not musically into anything he does after "Please Forgive Me" in 1993 or early '94 (sorta the end of his classic sound), that was a really sweet thing to say. So I love that song just for the words.
Anyway, here's one offhand - Paula's "Rush Rush" from 1991. She seems to just be saying this guy is so important to her and consumed her feelings. I can relate to that:
You're the whisper of a Summer breeze
You're the kiss that puts my soul at ease
What I'm saying is I'm into you
Here's my story and the story goes
You give love, you get love
And more than Heaven knows
You're gonna see
I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try
I'm gonna take this love right to ya
All my heart, all the joy
Oh baby, baby please
Chorus:
Rush, rush
Hurry, hurry lover come to me
Rush, rush
I wanna see, I wanna see ya get free with me
Rush, rush
I can feel it, I can feel you all through me
Rush, rush
Ooh what you do to me
And all I want from you is what you are
And even if youre right next to me you're still too far away
If I'm not inside your arms
I get dramatic baby, yes I know
But I need you, I want you
Ooh man, I love you so
Ooh, ooh you're gonna see
I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try
I'm gonna take this love right to ya
All my heart, all the joy
Ooh baby, baby please
Chorus
When you kiss me up and down
Turn my senses all around
Oh baby, oh baby
I dont know just how or why
But no one else has touched me
So deep, so deep, so deep inside
You're gonna see
I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try
I'm gonna take this love right to ya
All me heart, all the joy
Oh baby baby please

Dylan
Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Martika Toy Soldiers
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
It wasn't my intention to mislead you,
It never should have been this way. What can I say?
It's true, I did extend the invitation,
I never knew how long you'd stay.
When you hear temptation call,
It's your heart that takes, takes a fall.
Won't you come out and play with me
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers.
It's getting hard to wake up in the morning,
My head is spinning constantly. How can it be
How could I be so blind to this addiction
If I don't stop the next one's gonna be me.
Only emptiness remains, it replaces all, all the pain.
Won't you come out and play with me
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers.
Only emptiness remains, it replaces all, all the pain.
Won't you come out and Play with me?
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers.
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left,
We all fall down like toy soldiers.
Bit by bit torn apart, we never win,
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers.

I've always loved that line, too (about seeing their unborn children in her eyes). It's a very touching part of the song. :)

A Paul McCartney song that got totally overlooked on this 2005 album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard" and the one song he should have played on his US Tour, too.
This song has very touching lyrics and was used in the movie "The Lake House."
"This Never Happened Before"
I'm very sure, this never happened to me before
I met you and now I'm sure
This never happened before
Now I see, this is the way it's supposed to be
I met you and now I see
This is the way it should be
This is the way it should be, for lovers
They shouldn't go it alone
It's not so good when your on your own
So come to me, now we can be what we want to be
I love you and now I see
This is the way it should be
This is the way it should be
This is the way it should be, for lovers
They shouldn't go it alone
It's not so good when your on your own
I'm very sure, this never happened to me before
I met you and now I'm sure
This never happened before (This never happened before)
This never happened before (This never happened before)
This never happened before (This never happened before)
This never happened before

More cheerful stuff from 'The Bobmeister'...
(Still can't sing to save his life though...get the Manfred Mann version instead!)

Since I first heard the song, I always thought "The Fly" by U2 had some profound lyrics. Not warm and fuzzy love song profound, but "Yeah, that's pretty true..." profound. U2 does that alot...
"One" by the same group, likewise but moreso...

I love this song by James Taylor "There We Are" obviously written for Carly when they were together, since her name is in the song.
Listen to me and Ill sing you a song
And the time will go by
til you never know where its gone
Talk to me and Ill tell you my life story
Walk with me and Ill tell you my dreams of glory
There we are
Walking hand in hand
Somewhere on the sand
At the end of the land
And the edge of the shining sea
Drifting through time and space
On the face of a little blue ball
Falling around the sun
One in a million, billion, twinkling lights
Shining out for no one
In the middle of the night
Here we are
Sparks in the darkness
Speaking of our love
Burning down forever and forever
Oh I dont know if I told you
But you hold my heart in your hand
And I found out something about you
Baby, without you
Im a lonely man
So though I never say that I love you
I love you
Darling I do
Carly, I do love you
And though we are as nothing
To the stars that shine above
You are my universe
You are my love
Here we are
Like children forever
Taking care of one another
While the world goes on without us
All around us

Cool!
I've always liked:
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
You're dangerous 'cause you're honest
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey
You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left in a beach
Well you tell me things I know you're not supposed to
Then you leave me just out of reach
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee
Well you stole it 'cause I needed the cash
And you killed it 'cause I wanted revenge
Well you lied to me 'cause I asked you to
Baby, can we still be friends
Hey hey sha la la
Hey hey sha la la
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee
Oh, the deeper I spin
Oh, the hunter will sin for your ivory skin
Took a drive in the dirty rain
To a place where the wind calls your name
Under the trees the river laughing at you and me
Hallelujah, heavens white rose
The doors you open
I just can't close
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, your gypsy heart
Don't turn around, don't turn around again
Don't turn around, and don't look back
Come on now love, don't you look back
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea
Who's gonna taste your salt water kisses
Who's gonna take the place of me
Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna tame the heart of thee

I heard this song the other day and now i'm singing it all the time. The lyrics are spot on.
Living Proof ~ Kelis
When I was young I had no one,
I walked alone, I never thought
I'd find someone who I could come home to.
Until there was you.
Until there was you.
You lift me up into the sky;
won't let me fall, just push me up
Higher and higher.
You fill me up - I'm still hungry
for more of you.
It tastes like love to me
You may not believe but I am living proof
Open up your heart and love will come to you
If you don't believe I'm telling you my truth
Open up your heart and love will find you too
No one is perfect, no, I won't ever be.
You see my faults and keep on feeling me.
And now I know wherever I could go
I will never have to walk alone.
You lift me up into the sky;
won't let me fall, just push me up
Higher and higher.
You fill me up - I'm still hungry
for more of you.
It tastes like love to me
You may not believe but I am living proof
Open up your heart and love will come to you
If you don't believe I'm telling you my truth
Open up your heart and love will find you too
It took so long to get it right
but in your eyes there is a light
much brighter than it's ever been.
I'm in love with the real thing.
I'm in love with the real thing.
You may not believe but I am living proof
Open up your heart and love will come to you
If you don't believe I'm telling you my truth
Open up your heart and love will find you too

Here's one that I always tend to listen to....usually when I'm sad, to help get me through the tears, and to show me that I can and will continue on.
The Show Must Go On- QUEEN
Empty spaces - what are we living for
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for...
Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore
The show must go on,
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on.
Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess I'm learning, I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free
The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends
The show must go on
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On - with the show -
I'll top the bill, I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the -
On with the show -
The show must go on...
