I don't agree with all the 40 songs they name, but it's nice for a change to hear those actor/comedian/singer commentators actually make some *positive* (and funny) comments about each song.

Debby Boone at #29?  That's a bad choice lol
I hate that song so much, and what's even worse is that it was the #1 song in both Canada and the USA the day I was born :(

Glad to see Dan Hill at #34

I also vote for "Cool Night", it really should have been there instead of some of the others and "Wildfire", too

I watched it too.

Yeah, it does seem like this one was a little different. Like you said, the commentators seemed a little more "serious" this time around, and when they joked about stuff, it fit into context more (they're usually funny, but their jokes can get tired on most of the countdown and I Love... shows). Also, those lists are usually just centered on the MTV era and beyond. They usually start c. 1982, but this was equally focused on '70s songs, especially singer-songwriters.

I would've probably picked more from the power ballad/Steve Winwood/Wilson Philips-esque AC era of the late '80s (1986-1991 was huge for that sort of music). The ones I like are in bold:

So basically it's 15/40. That's around 37%.

I know everyone, many songs are missing and they may have the right artist but the wrong song (ie., Bread).

And I do like what they have for #1, eventhough I'm surprised it got picked for the top slot.

I agree about Cool Night. Love that song. In fact, I just heard it the other day when we were at a restaurant.

It's funny, but I sorta half-predicted the top song without knowing it. All through the list, I kept thinking whoa, they've gotta put a Christopher Cross song in here somewhere if it's a soft rock list! Especially since he personifies aspects of the '70s with some proto-'80s music influence. So in retrospect I wasn't surprised "Sailing" was actually #1. I always liked it - Cross is a good singer, even if the dude always sounds like he just inhaled about a tank of helium. ;D

Suprisingly "I Want To Know What Love Is" from Foreigner isn't on the list...

Not a bad song. Much better than "Sailing" IMO.
