Subject: Movies that have made you cry
Written By: whistledog on 03/06/07 at 11:34 pm
Has a movie ever made you cry cause it was happy or sad?
I once cried watching an action movie. At the end of Con-Air, when all Nicolas Cage has for his daughter is a ratty old stuffed bunny rabbit, it brought a tear to my eye. I was the only one in the theatre crying. I felt so embarrased :-Frequency *spoiler warning* when Caviezel finds out his dad is alive, you can't help but cry

Beaches
A League of Their Own
Les Mis in Concert
Cats
Creator
ET
Hair
I'm sure there are more.
The first time I watched Creator with Carlos, I knew I was going cry (I always do) but I didn't want him to think I was foolish for crying during a movie. I was fighting back the tears when I looked over at him and the tears were streaming down his face. Since that time, I knew it was ok to cry during movies because I can bet that Carlos will be crying with me.

It would probably be easier to list movies that don't make me cry. There are certain movies that make me cry every single time I watch them, but I love them so I watch and cry anyway. These would include...
Empire of the Sun
The Shawshank Redemption
Glory
Undertaking Betty
Field of Dreams
Then there are movies that I can't watch because I become hysterical. Such as...
Dumbo
Bambi
An American Tale (yes, I sobbed)
E.T.
I can't watch anything with animals in it, you know, if animals get hurt or lost or something. I'm just wrecked afterward. I couldn't watch Old Yeller if my very life depended on it.

There are others, but they have escaped my memory thus far.

Jerry Maguire.. every time.
The Deer Hunter dosen't so much make me cry.. just leaves me very very cold inside. Same effect.
Saving Private Ryan.
All the Rocky movies.. but that's tears of joy.
Forrest Gump.
The Great Escape... this one is a strange one. Again, in the way Deer Hunter does.. it dosen't so much make me cry, but again, leaves me feeling very cold. For those that have never seen this (and if you haven't.. what's wrong with you?) it's Steve McQueen being Steve McQueen.. breaking out of a POW camp as only he could do. However.. there are some serious moment of darkness which culminate at the end with a large number of prisoners being recaptured and executed. Shows the futility of it all.
The worst for me is Johnny Got His Gun. I can't even watch this again.

I don't think I've every really shed a tear over a movie but I was watching a tearjerker last night. :\'(
One of the HBO channels was airing "Brian's Song." I haven't seen that movie since
the early 70's.

Isn't that the movie that was used as part of the Metallica video "One"?
I couldn't bare to watch it (the whole movie), the music video was surely enough.
Deer Hunter was another movie that made me cry, it was filmed in Pittsburgh (which is about a hour from where I grew up) so I could relate to alot of the first part of the movie (family wise) and to have the rest of the movie was just ... wow (is all I can say about that.)

How could I forget The Champ. I saw it in the theater and I remember being very upset.
I cried during Terabithia...and so was the older gentleman sitting in front of me. :)

The Fox and the Hound
Babe 2 - when the dog with the wheels gets thrown from the truck scene, they show him lying there with a vision of him in a field chasing butterflies without his wheels.
You've got Mail - At the end when Meg's character sees that her email friend is Tom Hanks and she says " I wanted it to be you "

13 Going On 30...because it reminds me so much of my childhood....and I always cry at the part where she is just so overwhelmed as an adult...and she runs home to her parent's house for them to comfort her....I can so relate to that.

OMG in Eye for an Eye! When Keifer Sutherland attacks Sally Fields daughter! That was horrible... oh yeah and in the Hills Have Eyes cuz after that rape scene a bullet to the head would have been welcome relief!

Shadowlands (Anthony Hopkins, Debra Winger about C.S. Lewis and Joan Gresham)
Of Mice and Men (Gary Sinise, John Malkovich)
The Wall
1984
The Killing Fields
The Elephant Man
Silkwood
Ordinary People (cheesy though it was!)
Midnight Cowboy (just at the end when Ratzo dies, it's kinda perverse I guess.)
The Best Years of Our Lives (Ayn Rand thought this was a commie flick!)
No, E.T. did not.

Brian's Song
E.T.: The Extraterrestrial
Philadelphia
Ordinary People
A Walk to Remember
My Girl
Forrest Gump
Ghost
The Green Mile
Schindler's List
A Beautiful Mind
Old Yeller
Saving Private Ryan
The Sixth Sense
Looking at this list, I just realized that are four Tom Hanks movies. Based on his work in Bosom Buddies, I don't think many people would have predicted where Tom's career has taken him. :)
