Subject: Guilty Pleasure
Written By: Snoopygirl on 12/16/06 at 8:56 pm
I decided to post in this section because it can be from any decade and you can list more than one.
Who is your secret musical guilty pleasure? You know the artists that you love to listen to that you don't want anyone to know about? Or maybe people already know your favorite.
Mine is KC & the Sunshine Band. I have loved them since the mid 70's. Maybe that's why Get Down Tonight is one of my all time favorite songs.
I also love 70's music from the cheesy one hit wonders to the hard rock of that decade.
People don't know about my love for KC but they do know about the 70's music tho. My niece thinks that music is " icky".
Oh well, she's 17. She doesn't know good music. ;D
Sorry if this has been posted before.

I don't have a musical "guilty pleasure" since I'm open with my tastes...
Though I like the choreogeraphy and Ashley Tisdale (her acting) from "High School Musical"...

no no! it's fine! i have a flagrant self-interest in suggesting it, i love having good new topics on my board where it really fits the idea behind the board.
if you look on the thread i think you'll see a "move thread" option somewhere. it'll look like the "lock thread" and other buttons.

I'm totally in to Chicago.
Like.. majorly!!
I realise to most people that's a bit weird, but when you look at my CD's and see all the death metal and such like.. then there's a big happy few inches of Chicago, it's kinda weird.

Ok, ok, I admit it. I like The Partridge Family.
Several years ago, I was with one of my best friends in a grocery store. We were trying to "one up" each other:
Me: Well, I have the Partridge Family.
My friend: Well, I have the Bay City Rollers.
Me: Well, I have Neil Sedaka.
My friend: Well, I have Shawn Cassidy.
This went on for awhile trying to come up with the most cheesiest music we had in our collections, making it sound like we were so proud to have them. Meanwhile, all around us, people were laughing (we laughed when we got to the car).

The British pop group Steps. They existed from the late 90s til around 2001. They went unknown here in North America, but being a follower of the UK chart, I discovered them. It was cheesy teen pop music, but it was simple pop songs that are (as Philip Eno would say) "pleasant to the ear"
Back in 1999, I was such a geek, that I made a website about them :-[
The website still exists, which is quite surprising since I lost the password, and haven't been there in over 6 years (the picture links still work, but the multimedia ones are broken) ;D

ok, my guilty pleasures:
Cheesy, sappy love songs by just about anyone..
Artists that I consider a guilty pleasure are
Barry Manilow
John Denver
Olivia Newton-John (her sappy love songs are the best circa 1970s)
Neil Diamond
And cheesy chick flicks...when I'm feeling down.. My estrogen kicks in and I break out Steel Magnolias, Terms of Endearment, Stepmom, anything that will make me laugh and cry at the same time...
About Last Night , Last American Virgin.. oh and GREASE!!!
Oh and tv...
I own every season of Dawson's Creek on DVD.. and I particularly like to have Dawson/Paceythons when I'm sick with a cold or something and camped out on the couch with my Vicks and Orange Juice.
Food Guilty pleasures...
well this is sick.. but I crave chocolate around 'that time of the month' .. So I'll buy a tub of Milk Chocolate ready to spread frosting.. and when PMS kicks in... I treat myself to a spoonful of frosting. It usually does the trick.. and it works.. you can't eat too much of it cuz it's so rich so usually a spoonful is just enough. ;D

You've actually answered your own question. A guilty pleasure for one is not for another. What makes it a
guilty pleasure? when it's outside the normal likes of an individual. I am heavily into progressive rock of the
70's, heavy metal and some goth rock.I have a deep disdain for 80's music, so for me, Tears For Fears is a
guilty pleasure.

Metal fans tend, on the whole... to be far more clued in than a lot of others. I'm not trying to blow my own horn here.. I'm so braindead it's not funny. But generally most people that seek out genres that aren't the most popular are usually the more intellectually gifted. A sign of boredom with society.

You say you hate it, but you keep listening. That's the essence of Guilty Pleasure.

What's not to love?

The difference between the Partridge Family & the Brady Bunch is the fact that the Brady Bunch are really singing. With the Partridge Family, it is only David Cassidy & Shirley Jones who really sing.

Those chips are not spicy at all. A lot of chips in bags that are so called "spicy" are very, very mild and I can't stand it so much when food products lie to you like that. I can handle all kinds of real spicy foods. I remember that so called "ghost pepper" sauce Wendy's had for a limited time and it was nothing like the pure natural ghost pepper that's really spicy, and they watered it down and made it so mild. Real spicy foods are when they don't mention the word "spicy". Try certain wings or food dishes at 5 star restaurants, special habanero or buffalo sauces, jerk wings from a Jamaican restaurant, fresh jalapenos, fuego flavored taki's, or any other products that doesn't try to exploit the word "spicy" so much. You'll find real spicy foods that'll burn your tongue, make you sweat, and make your nose runny for sure.

The Suite Life series was really good, I don't really know if I'd consider that as a guilty pleasure, but for your age at the time I can see why. I enjoyed Suite Life of Zack & Cody seasons 1 & 2 which was the show's prime. Season 3 of the original series and On Deck weren't for me because I thought they weren't funny anymore as they got older. Overall, I consider Suite Life as the last good series Disney Channel had. Wizards of Waverly Place was like a teenybopper Harry Potter sitcom, I thought it was so cheesy. Nothing special about Sonny With A Chance from what I heard.

That's normal, I know a lot of people who don't like Doritos either. In fact, it's 50-50 when it comes to people liking Doritos or not. I enjoy the flavoring power and that corn chip bite mixed together. I know some people who just want natural Tostitos chips dipped in their own salsa or cheese dip instead of Doritos with artificial flavor power. I find Lay's and Sun chips to be enjoyed by a lot more people.

Yeah, I thought it was good too... but given that I was in my 20s when it started, I still found it interesting.

This hasn't been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time now, but when I was 9, I enjoyed watching a kids movie based on Romeo & Juliet. However, in the movie, Romeo and Juliet were both seals. I can still remember this one particular scene when Romeo & Juliet (as seals) were drifting on this iceberg, but it cracked and the two were separated in the middle of the ocean and they lost each other. Admittedly, the scene actually made me feel sad at the time. :P

For music, probably some of Beyonce's songs, didn't think it was weird until people made fun of me for it, they tell me only girls listen to Beyonce, but I'm sorry, I can't help it ;D I find a lot of her songs to be catchy and think she has a good voice.
For video games, it would be Spyro: A Hero's Tail, it was a 2004 game that I played on original Xbox, people told me it's a bad Spyro game, but I grew up with it, I love that game.
I don't really have a movie guilty pleasure, but I'll admit, I sometimes try to find really bad movies to watch, because sometimes, they're so bad, they're funny.

Don't worry, I agree with most of what you're saying, but I don't think I've ever seen a LGBT movie (don't watch many new movies anyways), and would American Idol count as a female oriented show? On the oversaturation of electropop music, there were quite a lot of songs, but it seems to happen with a lot of genres. I think EDM music is going through that right now.

Have you checked those movies/TV shows out in the last few days?

I haven't been watching tv recently, but still will check when I do.
Yeah, they have incorporated it into a lot of other genres. Electro-rock, huh? I'm going to see what that is, never heard of it.

It actually came from an unrelated and a more obscure show than that (Freefonix). "Wix" in that show meant "cool". However unlike Winx Club, the producers didn't even bother putting Freefonix on Netflix or something.
