"I must break you..."
On a purely inspirational note, I believe Rocky deserved its Academy Award. From an entertainment standpoint, III and IV are tied for me :)

No what's ridiculous is you thinking someone's opinion about a movie is ridiculous. I saw it with my friends, I thought it sucked donkey dong. I was practically comatose in the theatre, it was that effing bad.

You need to read the books.

I don't care for science fiction/fantasy ANYTHING. I stick with historical books, biographies and books about specific topics, like sports and New York City.

No, it's called personal preference. I've read bits and pieces of the first book because my sister has it, and 10 minutes in I was bored and I put it down. I like specific kinds of books and I watch specific kinds of movies.

Hehehe...yeah, they walked a lot, didn't they...
I enjoyed the films, but they were incredibly long. I was squirming by the end of each because I had to pee so badly. My brother and I purged our bladders for a full two hours before the last one and still ran to the bathroom as soon as the "The End" showed up.
Not for everyone, but as an epic, the LOTR films were done very well. Now, if Peter Jackson had elected to put everything in the books into the movie...you'd be spending an entire day in the theater :D

The books were long because Tolkien had to introduce an entirely new world and also new languages and creatures. Lots of history in a world that didn't exist prior to publication. So considering everything PJ had to omit, pretty good movies. All three LOTRs probably deserved to win Best Picture.

I'm waiting for a final-ish version of the DVD set to come out before I consider buying a copy for myself :)
Someone wrote an opinion online about how, when he bought the Rocky DVD set, he took out Rocky V and broke it and stomped on it right after the transaction was finalized :D

This topic reminds me of a joke they did on the televison show Taxi.
Alex Rieger: You've seen all those Rocky movies. How can you tell them apart, they're all the same ?
Tony Banta: Easy. That's why they numbered them.
(at least that's about how I remember it)
Oh, and it's movie #1 for me, too. The direction by John G. Avildsen is really impressive at times in that one.
