What can I say - they're great writers!

I also like Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child - they wrote the Relic series, but they also have a lot of other great books.  They're mysteries but always with a touch of the supernatural.  GREAT stuff - I highly reccommend them.

Nero Wolfe is the man to beat!

I am currently collecting every NW book I can find.
Last count, between him & Robert Goldsborough- about 50.
Total in the series: About 80 to 85.

Never cared too much for Dick Francis, but that's OK.
I also like Ellis Peters, the late authoress who did the marvelous "Brother Cadfael" series.
Though there were only 21 books in the series, they are excellent Medieval Murder Mysteries.
(I also have the book that explains about the plants in Bro. Cadfael's garden...alll honest, real plants!)

I sometimes read Patricia Cornwall but easily bore with her characters. I prefer Kathy Riechs in the forensic arena.

Also love
Linda Fairstien
Jeffrey Deaver - the master of the twist.
Sue Grafton
Nikki French (excellent at suspense).
Lynda LaPlante
Tami Hoag

In repect to suspense/mystery books written by authors where the genre is not usually associated with them - I recommend Collen McCullough's On Off and Ben Eltons The First Casualty and Past Mortem - all really gripping mysteries.

When I have one of my mystery series complete, I plan to start on Dorothy Sayers's "Lord Peter Wimsey" series.

Janet rings a bell - I am sure I have some of them.

Deaver-wise I just finished the awesome The Twelth Card - so many twists.

For period novels I like Ellis Peters, Margery Allingham (Campion Novels), Agatha Christie and Ngaio Marsh.

Colin Dexter is good and I love Kathy Reichs. Nicci French when good is brilliant but they can be a bit hit and miss. The books are actually written by a husband and wife team Nicci Gerrard and Sean French.

Yes that has always fascinated me - writing partnerships can be fraught with trouble !

Have you read Land of the Living. I was particularly mesmerised by it and its whole "what if" factor that seeped into my brain. Its rare for me to let a book affect me that way.
