Nah, I just like to point out that even George Lucas messes up. Be glad I didn't include "Howard the Duck".

If I had to rank them, it would be V - IV - III - VI - I - II.
II was only good because Yoda rocks.

i might switch I and II but they're both down there in the consummation of suckitude so it hardly matters.
oh, and IV is better than V.

Agree. Bad acting all around...except Liam Neeson and Yoda.

"laugh it up fuzzball!" and those little ralston purina badges the rebels had. and the smooth-talking lando. and c3p0 getting his head soldered on backward. and luke's scream after darth tells him "no, I am your father..." (not to give it away for anyone who hasn't seen it.) there's lots of camp in empire.
i just think star wars had a tighter story arc. and riffing off of the old serials is way cooler than riffing off of chick-y melodramas. don't get me wrong, i love them both, but star wars just has to edge out empire for that reason. and for the x-wing battle at the end. it's just intense!

Ah...
Randal Graves: Which did you like better? "Jedi" or "The Empire Strikes Back"?
Dante Hicks: "Empire".
Randal Graves: Blasphemy.
Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.
V > VI.
But V >= IV.

>VI. HATE that movie. i fell for it when i was, er, 13, i think, but it's awful. the dogfight at the end was the only good part, and the ewoks friggin' ruined EVERYTHING.
incidentally... i'm looking at star wars and empire on netflix and they're not saying about "special editions" or any of that. i heard rumors they were going to re-release the actual ORIGINAL movies without lucas' crap CGI revisions and i've been waiting to see the movies again till he did that. do you know if that's happened yet? if i put this on my queue will get the actual movie or the new crayola version? cuz i refuse to even dignify that crap with a space on my netflix queue.
george lucas' whole special edition thing with the original trilogy fills me with a truly irrational rage. the rage i felt when i learned paul mones was physically abusive to kim richards on the set of tuff turf and made her all upset? it's THAT kind of rage.

It wasn't that bad. I liked how the Special Editions didn't really kill the story, they just prettied up the 70s/80s special effects (which were already darned good).
Incidentally:
http://www.imdb.com/chart/top
10. 8.7 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 142,302
11. 8.7 Star Wars (1977) 179,109
Very closely rated.

empire is definitely a worthy adversary.
i really have a thing about that whole special edition thing. it's positively stalinist.

This never happened. If you never heard of it, don't google it. Don't youtube it. It will make you angry. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to the Christmas Special. The Christmas Special leads to... suffering.

Here's the thing.
Empire really turned the tide on movies. Most films have happy endings, it's just the way it is. In empire, Luke gets his hand cut off, Han gets frozen, Leia gets all upset.. all the time (ooohh Carrie) Obi-Wan's dead, Lando looks like a backstaber, Chewie is miserable, the droids (how I detest thee) have a sh.it time of it, Darth is kinda miserable because of the internal - Nurture/Kill conflict with his son. The Emperor is probably pissed because Luke got away, although in some ways he's gonna be happy because now he'll come to him. Notice, after Empire, the Emperor is waaaaay more interested in where Darth is, because he knows Luke will go to his father. So everyone is miserable. Even Boba Fett is miserable because he knows in 30 years everyone will think he's a clone, which totally destroys the original backstory for him. (Talk to me about annoying, the whole universe shouldn't exist considering how many paradoxes Lucas created).
Anywho, misery is paramount to the continued existence of the force, seeing as without a dark side, there would be no light side of the force. They balance each other out, because for good to exist, evil must also exist, if there was only good or evil, they wouldn't be either because there would be no way to clarify what exactly they were.
"Shuh, Empire, best..episode ( ::) ).. ever."

I do not really have a favourite, for all six seem to merge into one long story and cannot play a true individual point.

yeah true. i remember when i saw it originally, though, i thought of the ending more as a cliffhanger than as a real ending though. at that point everybody knew there would be a third and the rebels were gonna get some payback.
i personally like the first better but i like the second one so much i don't really care that much, it's like ladies, ladies, don't fight! you're both pretty. sorta like arguing whether the first or second ep is worse. i'm like ladies, don't fight! you're both hideous cows.

You're right, it would be a waste of time and money. There is no possible way you can like the first three episodes more than IV or V. And if you do, you are the reason kittens die.

Silly question...do you find it appropriate or lame that Kenny Baker was asked back to sit in the R2-D2 trash can for the new movies, what with all the CGI and stuff? I guess George needed to write off an extra $500K or so.

George Lucas In Love was like a small direct-to-video independent film that poked fun at how George came up with Star Wars. The Star Wars Xmas Special never should have happened, kind of like Robocop 2 or Rocky V.

Although Empire Strikes Back is a close second.

I love Empire! These prequels had too much CG and the CG was tooo notacible. Made it feel cartoony in a way. You can't beat the originals. Empire rocks, don't know why, but it just feels right to be the best. I have to admit though episode 3 was really good and the best of all the prequels.
