Since this site hasn't had a Rick James poll yet,I will be the first one to do so in his honor. So,which was your favorite jam during the 70's & 80's?  :)

I also liked that song "Party All the Time" that Rick James produced for Eddie Murphy.

It was cheesy, but somehow had that funky Rick James feel to it.  8)

My song isn't listed. I like "Fire and Desire", his duet with Teena Marie.

What song do you think I picked :)

I picked Superfreak. Rick James wasn't that well known in Britain (in fact, the only time I heard Superfreak was at my local Jobcentre of all places . . .)

So,no one's ever heard of Glow,Big Time,Ghetto Life or You Turn Me On?

If anyone's ever heard The Rick James tribute this past weekend, you've heard all the other songs he made and produced including Mary Jane Girls and Teena Marie.

SuperFreak, gee I can't begin to guess which one you might have picked... can you give us a hint?   ;D   (I have wondered if that's where you got your nick.)
I actually got it from an old girlfriend, as a compliment ;)

'Cause he was friends with the Super Freak.

I remember seeing Rick James in a TV interview, bragging about how high up in the charts Party all the Time went.

That just says SO much for Charts......Look at the horrid state of music today...all these corporate creations go straight to the top.....I liked the way the charts USED to be.....they changed the formula about 12 years ago....it used to be a great thing to debut at #1 on the LP chart...but NOW it happens all the time ::)

I can't believe no one has said it!

I'm Rick James, bitch!

Anyways, is it true that Rick James originally did "U Can't Touch This"?

Okay, I think I have just officially set myself as the "most obnoxious poster" for quoting Dave Chappelle.  :-\\

No, Rick James originally did 'Super Freak'.  MC Hammer then sampled it into the most overplayed song of 1990  :(

Put Your Mouth on Me was a terrible song.  The scary part was that it became Murphy's 2nd top 40 hit  :o

* I * have, Howard.  :)

You beautiful thing, you beautiful thing, you glow, glow...don't you know you are beautiful?

"Glow" was Rick's second Top 10 hit over here, peaking at #6. In fact, I like it better than "Super Freak".

And for the heck of it...here's the video.

If anyone's ever heard The Rick James tribute this past weekend, you've heard all the other songs he made and produced including Mary Jane Girls and Teena Marie.

Oh gosh... Mary Jane Girls. How could we forget about them? ::)

Modified to add:
BTW, and for the sake of accuracy: Rick James's final chart hit over here was "Loosey's Rap". That one peaked at #30 in our charts in 1988. I don't see that one in your poll... :-\\

Give It To Me.  I was irritated when Burger King used it for a whopper commercial a couple of  years ago.

If you'd like you can also include groups and people who he either sung with or managed like Teena Marie, Mary Jane Girls, Val Young and Eddie Murphy.
