Subject: My Reflections Of InThe00s

Written By: CatwomanofV on 02/21/25 at 4:01 pm

I stumbled upon this site in 2002 looking for the song Born Again by Billy Preston & Syreeta and stayed. Shortly after, I introduced the site to Carlos. We were living together but not yet married. Everyone knew that I was with someone on the board but they didn't know who. Then Carlos asked me to marry him in 2003 and I announced it. I must have told someone that it was Carlos because on that thread, someone let it slip. So, everyone knew that we were a couple. People were surprised it was him.

In 2004, I was first asked to be a mod by Hairspray. For long-timers, I'm sure you remember her. I declined because I didn't want the headache-and there was a lot of drama on this board over the years. I finally relented in 2017 when there was really no one around to take care of all the spammers on the board. Chucky made me lead mod and disappeared without giving me any instruction. I had to teach myself what to do. There are still a lot about this board that I don't know. But, in many ways, I feel like this is MY board even though I am only basically a place holder for Chucky.

I am not surprised that Chucky wants to end it. He hasn't been active here for a long time. I think he has been done with this board for almost 10 years now. He only kept it going because we are still using it and I am here to keep an eye on things. But, with this server thing, it is an excuse for him to end it. I am sure if he wanted to, he would rebuild like he did in 2004.

A lot has happened in the last almost 25 years I have been here. Personally, I was married and widowed. Became a grandmother 8 times over, lost many family members-my grandmother, parents, sister, aunts, uncles, and of course Carlos. We moved around the corner, bought & sold a house in Puerto Rico, bought & sold a sailboat, a camper van, and traveled around this country.

We met a lot of you over the years. Met Karen a few times as well as Maxwell Smart. We had that big meet up in Philly in 2009 where we got to meet several of you. I know some of you have met other members over the years. Christmas cards were and are still being exchanged every year. Talk to 80s Cheerleader on the phone for hours when Carlos was in surgery for his back many years ago. I also talked to Gemini on the phone a few times years ago. I even gotten a few gifts from people. Red Ant once sent me a batch of trail mix he made. Why? I don't know. He wanted to. It was good, too. And I also got some gifts from Quirk in a Secret Santa gift exchange.

Friends were made and there were some falling outs. People came and left. Some just disappeared and others left in protest of one thing or another. Others were banned.

We also lost a lot members, Bookmistress, Absolutely Vile, Green Jello, Red Ant, Dizzy, Randyripoff, and of course Don Carlos. Those are the ones that I know about. I am sure there are more.

As we go into our last week, I want to thank Chucky for giving us an on-line home for all these years.

I want to thank my friends here (you know who you are) who have helped me through some VERY trying times (especially in the last year and a half).

I also want to thank all of you who have kept this board going for so long. It gave me reason to keep coming here.

This place will always be a part of me. I spent the last 23 years here. I will miss it a lot. I am not going to say good-bye to all of you because we are starting a new chapter. We are just saying good-bye to INTHE00s.  :\'( :\'( :\'(

* Edited to add to the list of members we lost.

Very nice post, Cat.

I, too, have been a longtimer here. Not just on InThe00s as a member, but in Chucky G’s overall community. I began coming here in early 2003 via a link from sister site Amiright, which I originally found in 2000 (when it was still fairly new).

It all started on April 25th of 2000. I was in the library at the community college I attended at the time. I did a Google search for song lyrics, and came across a site with misheard lyrics - Amiright. I was amazed by what I saw on there, and I realized that I’ve misunderstood various song lyrics myself. So I went there on a regular basis, and over the next couple years I explored other areas of the site (including parodies).

It wasn’t until late 2002 that I decided to check out this place (the old version of course). However, I didn’t do any posting until early in 2003; at that time, I chose an alias to use (it came from a gaffe on the GSN game show Lingo). At first, I only posted as a guest (since that option was available), but when guest posting was disabled in February of 2004, that was my cue to register. And I’m glad I did. I began taking part in various threads; and when I got to the PBGs, I started having lotsa fun.

Then in April 2004, the old forum crashed, the site was down for a week.. and then the new forum was launched and I started having a great time again. I got to know several people who were regulars at the time, some of whom have come and gone, but I enjoyed the interaction with them. I even made some friends.

In 2006, Chucky announced that he wanted to recruit editors for his sites, including Amiright, and I volunteered to help him out. This involved reviewing submitted entries to the site, and getting rid of things that don’t belong. And in 2008 I started helping to clean up the archive of existing misheard lyric entries, fixing any that might be wrong, and deleting duplicate entries as I spotted them.

In 2007 I began taking part in the Christmas card exchange. I remember for the first few years I was in, I received cards from plenty of people here; I also sent cards to them. But over the years, a number of them stopped sending cards, and now I think there are only two or three members that I regularly exchange holiday cards with. That’s another thing; I joined Facebook in 2009, found the group for this site, and established friend connections with dozens of members - some of whom don’t really visit here anymore but are still in touch with me. Also there is one former member that I am still very much in touch with; she and I exchange text messages and I have even talked with her on the phone, plus she and I have discussed the possibility of meeting up in person sometime.

Anyways, before I go, I would like to once again thank Chuck for this place and allowing it to be available for as long as it has; plus the moderators for helping to keep the place tidy. It’s been a great 25 years, and I hope to remain in touch with the regulars on here as we transition to the new site. Thank you all!

What I forgot to mention in my post above, I had a few family members join-not just Carlos. One of my sisters joined for a brief period of time. I think her account is still active and my dad even joined. He only posted in the Before the 70s section. I also had a couple of friends join but they didn't stay.

Forgive me, for I am unwell with flu (been resting all morning) and not thinking that well at the moment. To some it up

"We had joy, we had fun".

I joined up in May 2004 when the forum I was on shutdown (BBC), a colleague suggested here, in fact I think he is still a member, long time not used. He had a pop forum website to, but I cannot recall the name of it. I went one to be loyal to our boards.

I am already beginning to feel that something missing feeling. We have all shared joys and sorrows, and I hope will continue on the new board.

On a similar note, someone that I knew IRL joined here in November 2007 under the username EuriskoXP. He saw me browsing on this site and decided to register. He made a few posts during that time. However, ten years later, I found out on Facebook that he is no longer with us. :\'(

There have been a few set of siblings over the years. There were other married couples too. In fact some of those married couples actually met on this board!

There were a couple of siblings-Quirk & Midnightdarkness, Belle du Jour & Def Con, Sister Morphine had a sister here but I can't recall her name. When I first came on there were Southernspitfire & Goldie. There may be more but those are the ones that I can recall off of the top of my head.

Yes, I remember Quirk and MkD being sisters; I’m in touch with both of them on Facebook. I also remember the same thing about Defcon and Belle (KK).
Sr M (who was banned) had a sister, but that gal wasn’t a member here.

I’m not sure if any other members had siblings who also joined.

I found this place nearly 20 years ago, looking for 70's classic rock stuff and I ended up getting a lot more. Met some pretty cool people from all over the world. Had many good enjoyable conversations, some serious and others a bunch of nonsense. Many message board friendships have became real and for those I am grateful. There were times I couldn't wait to get home so I could join in. Thanks ChuckyG for providing inthe00s. I'll stay connected with many of you that are on Facebook.

Many year ago I read a newspaper article about a misheard lyrics website called kissthisguy.com It sounded interesting so I signed up. It is too long ago to remember what we talked about, though I am fairly sure links to the rock, paper, scissors society and an involved story about how someone’s prank may have inspired an episode of Road Runner were both featured. As time went on the guy running the site had some issues in his real life, meaning the site was neglected for a while. It wasn’t working as smoothly as it should. Chucky G was a member there. If I remember correctly he offered to take over the site from the guy. He definitely mentioned his own website AmIRight and possibly inthe80s. After a while I joined the forums here, this would be probably in 1998. I really enjoyed the lyrics quizzes and got chatting with some of the members here. Taoist in particular I remember, as he had been a student at the university where I was working.

I have had lots of fun on here over the years. I’ve laughed and cried with board members. Live blogging films with people in The Longest Thread, playing various games, lyrics quizzes, supporting people through life and being supported in turn. I joined here shortly before my first child was born, and now both children are grown and starting out in the world.

Meeting up with people in Philadelphia was a fun weekend. Gis and Ashkicksass were the instigators, but Cat and Carlos, Tam and Big Nasty, Bookmistress and her husband (forgot his user name), loki and his wife, and others came. I later met with Cat and Carlos in Connecticut a few times, and later again in Vermont. I also was lucky enough to meet up with BadFingerFan (Mike) and snozberries (TQ) in California and Dagny (and her daughter), and Ash (and her dad) when we were in Utah. I hope to meet up with Gis again (a work meeting got in the way last time).

This website has been a big part of my life for the past twenty-five years and I shall miss it, and the members. I have hopes that the new place will work out well and grow into another great thing, but the web and the world is a different place.

In all the years I’ve been here, I have been grateful to get to know so many great people. I know there’s been talk of meeting others in person - which I know several of you have had the pleasure to do - and I’d still like to do that someday. (Maybe there will come a time for that. Don’t know when, or where, or which people, but I’m sure there’ll be an opportunity.)

Does anyone know which thread this was?:

Pee pee poo poo. Made you look.

I thought it was freaking funny as crap even though someone smited the dude and put "whatever!" as the reason. I think it was from 2004, but I'm not sure.

I wanna take a screenshot of it. It's one of my funniest memories of this site.

Well this is it. I've had so many memories over these 23 years. I slowed down a bit, especially after we moved in 2017. My living situation just sucks, but I have told my mom I wanted to move out and had been wanting to for years. My creative energy went elsewhere. But I never did retire from parodies. I don't know what will ever become of my Foreigner "Squid Game" parody.

It's crazy how many things I've lost this year, or will soon enough:

IMDForums (a failed successor to the IMDb message boards)
One of my first celebrity crushes (RIP Michelle)
Amiright/Inthe00s
Stranger Things
Windows 10

It's truly the end of a few eras. Michelle was only three months older than me, and in a way I feel like I grew up with her, even though I stopped following her career at some point. The fact she was my age and making me think about my own mortality. And losing these websites and touchstones of my life. It's crazy to think about. But at least we have the new forum to carry on our legacy.

Goodbye Amiright and inthe00s. Hello New 00 Zone.
