Subject: The RTO Thread

Written By: batfan2005 on 10/03/23 at 8:33 am

Not sure if this is the right forum to start this thread in, but probably better than in the decades/2020's forum. Anyhow I just thought to start this thread to discuss your thoughts on returning to the office, if that applies to you. It is a hot topic and there's been discussions about it before. I for one am not a fan of it and prefer wfh, or at least on a hybrid schedule.

Anyhow here are my biggest gripes about returning to the office:

- The traffic. I get severe road rage and that is the biggest cause/source of frustration, sometimes more than the job itself. I do feel drained by the time I arrive at the office, and back home in the evening.
- Annoying coworkers. The loud typing, loud talking, people who think they are comedians, the whole nine.
- Sharing amenities such as the coffee machine, refrigerators, microwaves, etc.
- Nasty bathrooms, also that we have to share
- Lack of safety, not just from COVID and other communicable diseases, but lately there has been some crimes commited on or near the property. There was also an angry customer who made death threats.
- Our CEO who wants everyone to gather for "culture", but is too good to say hi to anyone, at least the lower/non-exec type people.

Another pet peeve to add about the office, it seems like people are always in my business. Although this could go along with the annoying coworkers but this one is a little different. It's not necessarily annoying but I like to keep my personal life personal and not get asked questions by people who either may care or just pretend to care.

Maybe you aren’t suited to an office environment

Maybe pre-COVID when it was the norm, but once I got so used to WFH it was harder than I thought to go back. My social/people skills have greatly deteriorated.

Here's an article about this, how overall employee satisfaction is down.
