Subject: Are most people this over-analytical about age?

Written By: MusicGuy93 on 07/31/23 at 5:45 pm

Hey everyone,

I posted something like this on popedia, but since that site doesn't get much traffic, I thought I'd post it on here as well.

To give a bit of background, back in December 2022, I went to this meet up group. We went to this Korean restaurant/bar place, and we were all talking about various topics. At some point the topic of age came up. Keep in mind everyone in this group is in their 20s-30s (I was 29 at the time, and I'll be 30 this October). One guy was 27 and another guy was 31. When the 31 year old guy revealed his age, everyone was surprised because he looked much younger. Then the 27 year old guy said something along the lines of "I hope I still look younger at 31". And, I was just dumbfounded by this statement.

In my eyes 27 and 31 are in the same age group, and I was under the impression that most people shared that viewpoint. In fact you can look at most age demographics, either 25-34 or 26-35 are single demographical groups. Also, to me someone in their mid-late 20s is indistinguishable from someone in their early 30s.

I could understand the guy's statement if he were say, 21. Because 21 and 31 are literally a decade apart, and you can typically tell someone in their early 20s apart from someone in their early 30s. But someone who's 27? They're pushing 30 themselves! I just can't believe an adult would be so over-analytical about age, let alone a 27 year old. I would expect this attitude from someone who was still in their teens!

Anyway, are most people like this when it comes to age, or is the guy in question just over-analytical and possibly a little socially awkward. I should also mention alcohol was consumed, so that might have played a part in his answer, though I don't think we had drank that much when the age topic came up.

You really don't need to bump up a thread after ONE day. Give people time to find it because not everyone comes here everyday. If someone wants to respond they will. If no one responds it is because either people are not interested in the subject or they don't know how to respond to the subject.
