Dear friends at inthe00s,

On March 29, 2018, at approximately 8.30PM (CET), my father has passed away, just a few days short of his 86th birthday.
He went peacefully, although sooner than expected, surrounded by his children.

My father had been complaining of pain in the abdomen for some time. He was therefore sent to hospital just over a week ago, to have some photos taken, where it became clear a tumour was blocking his intestines. The tumour, however, was operable.
Whilst awaiting surgery, my father contracted pneumonia, which in the end proved fatal.

He will be sorely missed by his brother, his five children, five grandchildren and one greatgrandchild, his numerous nieces and nephews, and all others that were part of his life.

Henk, please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.  I know the feeling.  There is a Buddhist story of a man who goes to a priest and asks for a blessing.  The priest thinks about it and answers "My your father die, and then you die, and then your son die".  The supplicant is, of course, outraged until the priest explains: "How much worse would it be for any of you to die in any other order"

Difficult times indeed, with Easter and my dad's birthday coming up. In fact, we've decided to have the funeral service on his birthday (April 4). It's gonna be weird and beautiful at the same time.

We weren't ready yet to let go of my father, and I don't think he was really done with life either. He had a busy social life and was still driving a car up till the day of his hospital admission. His mind and his heart were strong until the end, but his lungs just couldn't cope with the infection. And now he's gone...

Sad news indeed.

I lost my grandmother to natural causes back in December of last year she turned 100. :\'(
