Subject: Would your family know who to contact online if you should pass?
Written By: bookmistress4ever on 10/30/12 at 10:15 am
I got to thinking about this last night.
Say for whatever reason, you died. Morbid I know, but would anyone in your family know to post a note somewhere to let us know here? I think my hubby knows enough, even though he doesn't come on here at all, I think he'd let people know. At least post to my Facebook, maybe call people on my cell phone to let them know.
Would we try to contact anybody that has been missing awhile?
I think I might put a note somewhere of who to contact in case I pass on.

Good question. I'm sure my fam would put something on facebook, but they wouldn't know to put it here.
I guess I'd hope the people I'm friends with on fb would let you guys know.

It is a good question. I know word of my demise would be passed on here since every member of
my immediate family is a member here.

I have a couple of family members who are also members here.

Probably not. My mom knows I post here but it would never occur to her to come here (or fb) and send a message out.
I guess I should put something down in writing somewhere.

I had these same concerns about a guild I was in once (which I think everyone moved on from)...the ones I care about are on Facebook though, so if we didn't talk for a while, they might look there and figure it out. After I first had these concerns, one of our originally active members vanished for three months or so before returning and apologizing, just to vanish again; he's been gone ever since then, and I don't know his phone number or Facebook/Msn like I do for other people. The members that do say he hasn't replied to anything.
I guess I should put something down in writing somewhere.
That's what I did, but I got rid of it as it's now outdated.... It is hidden in my room somewhere no one would look, and actually said "open only if I'm dead" for safe measure, and listed websites they should go to.
When you think about it, if you are willing to do that then you should probably ALSO write down any unfinished business that they might be able to help you with (although asking to spare THEIR time might be considered rude)
This kind of stuff does make you think. I'm not really friends with anyone in THIS community though hehheh, I just lurk and plan to start doing the parody stuff sometime.

I can genuinely say I've made some really good/true friendships here.

Owing to a misunderstanding on Facebook last spring some people in my family thought I was dead and the cops showed up on my doorstep and I was rolled into the ER feet first!

I doubt it. If I died I would probably just mysteriously disappear from the internet as my family does not know which websites I visit other than Facebook.
To be frank, I wouldn't want them knowing about some of the sites I visit though as it is none of their business.

Maybe My Mother could post something on her Facebook.
But we're not her Facebook friends so we'd never see it.

My Mother has never been on a messageboard before but I think I'll give her my name and password to log onto this board just in-case.

She doesn't need access to your account to notify us. She could post as a guest-or open her own account since it doesn't cost anything.
