I thought 4 years ago when I became a Lead Moderator, that things would generally be easy enough to handle. Obviously I was wrong.

To be fair, in the past year there really hasn't been much need of moderating. Our little community fares very well compared to other sites. We implemented a spam stopper, which works great, save for the few that still choose to not register and spam as a guest. Somethings never change. So lately, there really hasn't been a whole lot of problems on the site.
And if there are technical ones, we can be sure that Philip will let us know ASAP. Thanks Philip! ;)

I am about to go on my rant/tangent/whatever you want to call it.
I am not naming names, nor am I pointing fingers. If you feel like you are being singled out, it is not my intention... perhaps it is just your own guilt... but I digress. :-X



My name is Tam, and I am a Lead Moderator.
That means that any time you find something on the site that doesn't belong, you hit that little report button and let me know. If I don't get to it, Bobo will. And if he doesn't get to it, ChuckyG will. No matter the time of day, we will be sure to take care of it for you. You see spam? Report it. You see inappropriate images? Report them. You see the use of inappropriate language? Report it. Anything you see that you honestly think should not be on the site... report it. The Mods or Admin will be sure to check out the reports, gauge them and remove or edit as need be. We will make sure the site runs as it should, with minimal affect to you or your access. That is our job... actually, it is our volunteer position.

So yeah, if there is something that violates the rules of this forum, just click that neat little button and one of us will get on it.

However, if there is something on the site that you want removed, because it talks about you, or it's in a thread that you refuse to post in, and you choose to go about having it removed via pm to a moderator... not cool. (Although I receive some very good notices through pm's, these have nothing to do with the complaining in pm's that has been going on lately.) Moderators are not Kindergarten Teachers. We are not here to hold your hand or cater to your whims. We are not here to play favorites, nor are we here to enforce subtle belligerence. The forum is an open place for us all to post, and whether you choose to participate in a thread or not, people are allowed to post as they will. (Of course, within reason and the guidelines of the forum rules.) Some people have a certain reasoning that makes sense to me - if you don't want people talking about it or you, simply don't post it. Piece of cake.

It's funny that the Moderators haven't had to use the Ban Hammer in a long while, when it comes to members. But don't be fooled. No matter your number of posts, your number of years here, the status you may or may not have on the forum, if you become a menace to the forum, you will be removed. Same goes for Bobo or I. We are not outside of the rules. We all have to follow them in order to keep the site running smoothly.

So there you go.
Put on your Big Boy Briefs and your Big Girl Panties and move on. It's an internet forum. Get over it.

And this will be the last thread I write in reference to this stuff.
From here on out, I will do the moderating as I see fit - be it warnings or bans.

I strive to avoid forum drama, but I dig DIY manufacturing.

3-D printers are awesome, and cost no more than a laser printer did 10 years ago.  Anything you can imagine, you can make.  You buy a kit for the printer, built it yourself, and all the software and CAD tools needed to drive it are open source.  What used to cost manufacturers tens of thousands of dollars per item, and have turnaround times measured in weeks can now be done in hours, in your own living room, for about $1000 worth of toy-budget for the printer, but only $2-3 worth of plastic per printed object.  Problem is, the depicted banhammer is probably about 6 inches in length, with a head diameter of about an inch, and a weight measured in grams.

Personally, I'd take an angle grinder and some progressively-finer grades of sandpaper to a meat tenderizer, or just start with a nice block of stainless steel and a CNC mill, and then etch the end result to end up with something like this.

How can you be distracted when you are always distracted?

Anyway, we tend to be self-regulating around here, as with any functional social situation.  If we object to something, we can ask the person to remove the comment or image.  Folks are more civil to one another than we were back then, in no small part because I'm more civil to others!  There are a few people have made themselves personae non gratae around here because of their persistently obnoxious and menacing remarks.  No ban necessary, they just don't hang around anymore...

Heh heh, I bought 'Married with Children' series 3 and 4 recently from Play. I will probably stop buying them after series 5 because they jumped the shark quite early in their time on telly.

~ Bobo, you are a LM, you have been longer than I have. Much respect for that, and you as a person. However, you have blurred the lines between friendship and being a moderator, and that cannot happen my friend. To that end, you are no longer to edit, delete, move, or otherwise moderate any post that nally reports, whether it be through this site, PM, email, FB, MS, etc. I will not restrict or interfere with any other of your LM priviledges or duties.

~~ nally, my patience with you is GONE, OVER. You WILL NOT EVER again report ANY post, unless it is ad or porn spam, or I WILL PERMANENTLY BAN YOU AS WELL AS DELETE ALL OF YOUR POSTS. Do I make myself clear?

Also, to that end, anyone goating nally, knowing that he cannot report posts now or he will get banned, will be dealt with quickly and severely. Quite frankly, I do not give a sh*t if you have 2 posts or 250,000, 2 days on the site or have been here 10 years since the original forum, it takes me about 5 seconds to make you go bye-bye all the same. I have been a member of this forum for over 5.5 years and a mod for 3.5 of them, and I too am tired of the bs petty drama. I dont have time for it, dont want to play babysitter anymore. but since I am still a lead mod, here's what WILL happen:

~ Bobo, you are a LM, you have been longer than I have. Much respect for that, and you as a person. However, you have blurred the lines between friendship and being a moderator, and that cannot happen my friend. To that end, you are no longer to edit, delete, move, or otherwise moderate any post that nally reports, whether it be through this site, PM, email, FB, MS, etc. I will not restrict or interfere with any other of your LM priviledges or duties.

~~ nally, my patience with you is GONE, OVER. You WILL NOT EVER again report ANY post, unless it is ad or porn spam, or I WILL PERMANENTLY BAN YOU AS WELL AS DELETE ALL OF YOUR POSTS. Do I make myself clear?

Also, to that end, anyone goating nally, knowing that he cannot report posts now or he will get banned, will be dealt with quickly and severely. Quite frankly, I do not give a sh*t if you have 2 posts or 250,000, 2 days on the site or have been here 10 years since the original forum, it takes me about 5 seconds to make you go bye-bye all the same. Keep that in mind. Play nice or stfu. Tired of this forum being a drama fest, and goes for EVERYONE, not just the 2 I mentioned. Dont test me, those of you who have been here a while know I banned Beth, banned Alan, banned numerous others, and I WILL ban anyone who tries to test me on this.

I have done the same thing. There's a difference to calling something to her attention.  IE someone starts the same topic in three different threads.  Or something is super offensive (IE full frontal nudity)  or something....

but when you start asking to have stuff removed that wouldn't offend a reasonable person then you start getting into a grey area and, ultimately, are abusing a friendship you may have with someone who's a mod.


I'll  give you an example.  We all know that I hate cheese... if someone posts a pic of of some disgusting food product that was loaded with cheese it's bound to make me gag.  Just because I don't like cheese and the look and thought of it makes me sick I do not have the right to run to my friend Tam and tell her to remove the offensive image.  In fact, Tam would tell me to go pound sand  ;D .  She would say that it sucks that the image offends me but it is not offensive to everyone (and probably no one else)  and so I should just ignore the picture until it's buried or avoid posting in the offensive thread ever again.  She would not arbitrarily remove the image to appease me and risk hurting my feelings... I know Tam loves me but she could care less if I was hurt because someone posted a picture of cheese in a thread I was posting in...

bingo. and Midas, there is nothing wrong with asking a mod directly for help, I prefer it to reading through email. but like Snoz mentioned, I am not removing/editing/modifying posts that do not violate the forum rules, just because someone doesn't like the post. I would sooner step down as LM than lose some of my friends here, and if it came down to that, it's what I would do. Not saying at all that Bobo has to or should do that, we have spoken, he knows my position about the whole thing. We're still friends, but I cannot let that override my job as LM, even if means coming down on another mod, nor can I allow any member here to manipulate a friendship with a mod to their advantage.

You all always have my ear if you need it, but ultimately, when it comes to modding here, I will go by the rules or my best interpretation of them, regardless of how the outcome may affect the reporter or reportee.

It's not to me to decide what should be done about this situation (even though Jack's words leave no room for misinterpretation, IMO). I think it better to let Chucky handle this.

I removed Bobo's access last week, he asked me about it yesterday.  I told him why, and he self-deleted after sending me a PM. I'm not sure there was a good way to handle it, and I could have probably done it better.  If he's not around to do the job, and then only shows up when someone personally complains about things that really don't violate the forum rules, he's not really doing what he should be.

I don't think you really could have done anything else, Chucky. He was confronted about this years ago and he still did it. What other choice did you have?

It is sad that he decided to self-delete. Maybe he will decide to come back.

I think, under the circumstances, you handled it the best way possible.

I love bobo and will miss him but unfortunately he was used as a pawn in a very immature game and paid the price. Personally I think the wrong person is being punished but how can you call someone out for pulling strings behind the scenes.

I'm gonna go do the most passive aggressive thing I can do and hand out a well deserved to the person responsible for things going the way they did back when this thread was created and again a few weeks ago.

I hope the next lead mod has more balls and just tells Nally to put on his big boy panties and deal with the fact posts wont magically disappear just because he doesnt like them.  ::)

For what it's worth: I agree with all of the above. I'm very sad to see Matt gone, because I consider him a friend. On the other hand: he self deleted - no one forced him to leave.
Still, it feels like the wrong person is paying the price here. Therefore I have decided to take appropriate actions myself.

Nally - if you read this - and I know you will - I have had it.
So help me, if I hear of you asking any, ANY of my single board moderators to remove something, you will be gone. I banned you before, I will ban you again, only this time it will be permanent! You have used and abused a so-called friendship resulting in one side losing their LM status and because of their embarrassment (and other personal issues) they have left the boards. You should be ashamed of yourself!! The whole LM status and whether Bobo was right or wrong is irrelevant, you pushed him after you were told years ago to cease and desist. Some friend you are. I hope you at least had the balls to talk to him on facebook and apologize...
