PMS!
Some men claim women's every emotion is based off of PMS.
Some women milk it for all it's worth.
But guess what? It really does exist in some degree, way, shape or form.

Thakfully, not every woman is the same, however that then means that we all have different forms of PMS. Could be something we never thought was related at all. Some signs appear one month to only be forgotten in the next two. What a PITA we women have to go through.

Midol is NOT the answer!
Ibuprofen barely works.
Pulling out my hair while sitting on the side of the bathtub? Somewhat relieving! ;D

I think though that the worst part of the entire process is how trivialized PMS has become. I am sure that y'all have seen the letter sent to Proctor and Gamble, that has been passed around the internet, from a woman who is furious with their "Have a Happy Period" campaign. If you haven't I will quote it below. Of course, there still isn't 100% proof that it is an actual letter, but what is said inside is 100% TRUE and sheer genius to call the company on their idiocy!

Why, without the LeakGuard Core(tm) or Dri-Weave(tm) absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favourite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants. Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever suffered from "the curse"? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my ‘time of the month’ is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call "an inbred hillbilly with knife skills." Isn't the human body amazing? As Branch Manager in the Feminine-hygiene Division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers' monthly visits from "Aunt Flo". Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behaviour. You surely realize it's a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend's testicles into a George Foreman Grill just because he told her he thought Grey's Anatomy was written by drunken chimps. Crazy! The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants... which brings me to the reason for my letter.

Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: "Have a Happy Period".

"Are you f…..g kidding me?" What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual smiling, laughing happiness - is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be anything "happy" about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreen's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like "Put Down the Hammer" or "Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong", or are you just picking on us? Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flex-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullsheesh. And that's a promise I will keep... Always.

"Happy Period"!!!  There was a case back in the late 19 century where a woman was charged with murder.  She was found not guilty by reason of insanity.  She was PMSing.  No one should go near a woman in her time of homocidal tendencies womanly trouble.

^ There are days where I have to almost tie myself to the bed in order to avoid ripping someone's head off!

Things on my body hurt, that just shouldn't hurt. Being in a fight with a bear would be more pleasing than that!

I crave chocolate a lot more than normal, I prefer staying in my flannel pj pants and have to wear a sports bra because my cute little Victoria's Secret makes my body SCREAM! I feel like I can't do anything right, and what I do accomplish is nothing more than what a 2nd grader can do.

Emotionally - let's just say that it is a good thing that deleting and banning someone is a longer process than one step - because I surely would have gotten rid of a few people just because I didn't like their humor during 'my time'!

I sometimes think it is harder for some women, depending on the length of their 'visitor'. Mine is an actual 3 days. The first being the absolute worst! The PMS though starts about 2 weeks prior, and it is a horrid, gradual process. I feel for my hubby and sometimes I think he is glad to be away from me when I am possessed!

I get a hair trigger, not incredibly bitchy though.  I do get very emotional.  Everything makes me want to cry.  I feel for my daughter, she can't escape psycho mom. ;D

I think mine got worse after I had my daughter  :-\\  I've had to give myself a time-out and lock myself in the bathroom a few times.  :D

As for stories, I'll share a funny one:

While using the restroom at JC Penney, my horrified 3 year old yelled out for all to hear "Mommy!  You're bleeding!!!!"

I don't usually get emotional but I am in serious PAIN some months. I'm talking not wanting to get out of bed-pain. In tears-pain. Carlos is very understanding (as much as a man can be  ;) ). He has even gone out of his way to make me some concoction that will ease the pain. Does it work? Don't know. Of course I do get bitchy because I am in pain but I TRY very hard NOT to take it out on him. It is not his fault that I am in pain-and he does do his best to try to ease things for me.


Ok, since I can't  find the lyrics to this song, I am going to try to write them down from memory for you. Please bear with me if I make a few booboos.


Well, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I could feel this thing wash over me like a giant wave. I was put off and pissed off and ready to kiss off the whole wide world. Sometimes it is so hard being a girl.

Now my hubby, my sweety he tells me that I am driving him out of his mind. Then he said, "Oh no. Don't tell me. Is it that special time? Again?  Drink plenty of water, take lots of Midol until this thing goes away." Nothing he says, is the right thing to say.

You guys this really is real. We ladies can't help how we feel. And we don't like it any better then you. And if you have a period you'll understand too.

Now my clothes don't fit right and my bra is too tight and I feel like a blimp. But I still run out and buy tons of cookies and pie and shovel them in. I feel frazzled and flakey and razzled and shakey and wish I was back in my bed. And if you look at me wrong I'll chew off your head.*

as a teen I used to get the worst cramps in the world and, you're right Tam, nothing worked. I would lay in a fetal position for hours, or hunched over something because that position caused the least amount of pain.  ;D


when i was a student at UCSB I worked campus security and we spent a lot of time impounding illegally parked bikes. One day I worked the impounding shift and the bike release shift and I saw this girl coming for her bike. The door was closed but I could see her through the slit of the half door.  She stopped and, purposely, worked herself into a crying frenzy.  When she was ready she knocked on the door and was shocked to see me there. I think she thought she was going to get a guy  ;D  The tears stopped instantly and she said she wanted her bike. asked her (cuz I was "curious" ) why she was crying.... she said she had really bad cramps and that's why she parked her bike illegally because it hurt too much to walk an extra 100 ft from the bike rack... I just stared at her (trying hard not to laugh) we both knew she was lying and had conjured up the story hoping a 19 year old boy would feel sorry for her or be too embarrassed to charge her the fee.  I was female and 28..... I just didn't give a f**k  ;D .

I bleed so bad once I bleed every day for over 3 months straight,I ended up having difficulties breathing because I was not getting oxygen to my heart,so they thought I was having a heart attack,they had to give me 5 bags of blood to makeup for what I lost.They decided between that and some fibroid tumors that a hysterectomy was my best bet. The only problems I've had was constipation for the first 2 months afterwards and some hot flashes,but I would be getting those pretty soon anyways.

Aunt Flo is in town right now.  Not the best time for her to show up when I'm trying to accomplish stuff for our trip.  I just hope she disappears by Saturday. :P

My sister usually has to take painkillers when the "happy period" comes about.  That's how severe her cramps are.

I crave anything, and I can switch moods in a split second (happy laughing, screamin and then sobbing....) I feel as if I am a psycho and not worth anything....  It is awful, and I feel it is getting worse as I age (or maybe it is the children, husband, job, added stress - don't know)  ;D >:( :\'( ::)          ??? ??? ???


I have tried different birth control pills, as I never used to feel this way, and now (WATCH OUT)....  Maybe I am going nuts????  The Pills do not seem to be changing much, so my husband actually got snipped to see if I go off of the pills if this would stop....  I AM AFRAID TO FIND OUT WHAT WILL START (it has been 20 years since I have not taken a pill or been pregnant)......

For the bowel problem take ibruprofin.  No, I'm not crazy.  It works.  For the migraines or just that really wierd jumpy feeling I used lavender oil in a diffuser. 

O.K. girls, don't hit me but I'm going to go one better than Sami and say that I don't get cramps because I don't actually have periods any more!  I haven't had one since some time in 2002.  I use a Mirena coil for contraception and this is a happy side-effect

When I first started I was very bad with cramps (time off work to lie in bed kind of bad).  It was like that for 5 years or so but then it got better.  I don't know why it did, I'd been on the pill for several years before anything changed.

I did suffer from mood swings - usually irrational anger.  And they got worse in the eary stages of pregnancy.  But I still have that problem now on and off so it's probably just me  :-\\

I get cramps and mood swings before and during my period. Sometimes I take some ibuprofen to relieve the cramps, but it doesn't always work for me. As far as mood swings, it can range from irritability to extreme sadness.  :(

Even though I'm a girl at heart in lots of ways, obviously I don't know firsthand what it's like to go through a period. I'm sure it feels terrible though, and I wish people would cut women slack over it (I hate when men assume "Oh she's on PMS" if a girl happens to snap or have a slight mood swing).

I agree with Tam that it's a 50/50 thing sometimes. For instance the period might aggrevate them, but at the same time it doesn't mean every time they're ticked off or emotional that it has to do with that. Sometimes it might contribute but I can't blame them,

For something everyone can relate to, I HATE getting charlie horse cramps in my calves (that hurts like an MFer) and it's bad enough when it lasts 40 seconds. I can only imagine if anything remotely like that lasted three to four days.

On a different note, but still on topic - when I was real young, like around 10 or so, I used to memorize commecials. So my mom, Aunt and I were in Kmart one day, and mom has to go down the feminie hygiene aisle. When I spotted a certain colored box, at the top of my lungs I yelled out....

"PLAYTEX DEODORANT TAMPONS? WHAT DOES SHE KNOW THAT I DON'T KNOW??"

I remember it to this day because my mom was so embarrassed, we left the store without buying anything and from that day on she would turn the volume down on such commercials! ;D

My hubby is actually very understanding when this situation arises. He can actually tell me when it is starting and I bless him for that. I haven't asked him how he knows, but he doesn't try to approach me for anything fun. ;) That's when I know to check the calendar - then on the actual day, I let him know that Mother Nature hates me, and he understands by looking at me doubled over in a crouching fetal position! And he NEVER asks me if I am pms-ing. I have never heard the words from his mouth. As a matter of fact, even working with the women he does, I have never heard him complain about that type of thing at all.

Jesse - as for leg cramps.... they are nothing compared to what some women go through. I am sure we would much rather endure such leg cramps than have to put up with what we do. I could never expect a man to understand - and that isn't meant to belittle any men who might be reading this thread - y'all just don't get it and never will. Like me, saying child birth must suck, but never having gone through it - I can't even empathize. I have no clue about it, just like men have no clue about PMS and Happy Periods.

WARNING TOO GRAPHIC FOR SOME

I am sure that you want to be empathetic in all, and you mean well - but really you have no clue!!!  It is not just the "pain" of a leg cram! It is constant, chonic pain (head, breast, menstral, abdominal) for some! It is hormonal and the idea of not having control over your own body, feelings, or mind!  It is having to deal with gross, blood and tissue engorged messiness ( I would rather AI a herd of cows on a single day, preg check them the next day, and deliver their calves - than deal with the gross stuff coming out of my body every month 8-P 8-P 8-P 8-P)!  It is being so bloated you can not fit into your regular size jeans, so you have to have a size bigger PMS pants!  It is not having any control of what you want to eat- you eat anything!!!  It is completely and utterly disgusting and miserable.... Luckily it only lasts a few days - hopefully and then life can go on as normal.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that I have 2 beautiful daughters, but PMS is not something that I necessarily ever "want" to deal with.  So please, if you really want to be empathetic - DON't say anything at all - that is the best advice one woman can give to any man....

Yes some get it in milder forms, some more severe - but all (properly functioning deal with it)... ANd unfortunately some women have taken great advantage of this "mystery" to men, and I believe that makes it worse for the rest of us....  I can't do this (I'm - you know????).....  Sorry I said that (I'm - you know????)  Gag!!! Drives me insane!

The charlie horse thing was just an example (I admit it's maybe not the best one) to equate how things hurt. I apologize though Sami, didn't mean for it to come across the wrong way. :) I know it's not ONLY physical pain but it's draining all over, including emotionally. Well, as a MAN, I try not to say stupid crap like "I know how you feel, honey" or anything akin to that because I know that'll land me in the doghouse.  What I do try to do is to be a good listener and to help out like I usually do so that she's a bit more comfortable, because I guess the whole thing with the period is basically her uterus being all bulimic and stuff and that sounds like it hurts real bad...I doubt men will ever feel that much pain unless they get shot in the spleen or something.

Mine just had it done, made me sort of happy he was in that sort of pain..... But he is such a wimp, I wanted to smack him after 3 days and tell him to buck up ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah it sucked and I'm glad it's over with,unfortunately I think I passed the dreaded curse to Missy,before she got pregnant she had some really bad periods,and she's only 16.My mom died of ovarian cancer,so family history had a little part in their decision to give me a complete hysterectomy.

The first day all I can use are pads. Tampons are pointless because I would go through them in an hour if not less.
After that it depends on what I am doing. If I am giong out of the house I will use tampons, but if I amstaying home, I just pad it.

Interesting story about tampons and stuff...

Back when I was a high school science teacher this one girl came into class late and not two minutes later said she had to go to the bathroom.  I was like WTF why didn't you go before class (not to mention that she was late anyway) and she said she had her period.  So what was I to do?  I let her go.  Then another girl said she needed to go too to help her friend with the period and I was like WTF are you going to change her pad for her?

The first girl got to go alone.  The second girl was told to STFU ;D

On a different note, but still on topic - when I was real young, like around 10 or so, I used to memorize commecials. So my mom, Aunt and I were in Kmart one day, and mom has to go down the feminie hygiene aisle. When I spotted a certain colored box, at the top of my lungs I yelled out....

"PLAYTEX DEODORANT TAMPONS? WHAT DOES SHE KNOW THAT I DON'T KNOW??"

I remember it to this day because my mom was so embarrassed, we left the store without buying anything and from that day on she would turn the volume down on such commercials! ;D

This reminds me of the commercial I memorized when I was about 5.  I used to ask women "Do you douche?  Are you a Summer's Eve Lady?"  They couldn't take me anywhere and had to bribe me with this picture of a puppy if I would never ask people that again!

Ya, when I was a teen I had my period every other week and it would last for 5 days (anemia and etc... they put me on the pill).. I honestly felt like I was always having a period, 1 week on, 1 week off...

Still on pill, scared to go off, because they are only 3 days and light now ??? ??? ???

On the first day or so of my period I don't have much of an appetite. It's been like that for me since at least junior high. Then when that feeling passes I get hungry as hell and end up eating foods I shouldn't even go near!  >:(

My first period started 14 years ago and you know what, you never forget that first period!

I was at school and sitting on a stool in science class and my back was killing me! I then finally went to the bathroom after my mom picked me up from school at a gas station and found the curse! I was so nervous. Because I had seen that movie "My Girl" some years previous, I told myself that it was hemorraging, and not a period. I actually tried to ignore it but the pain was unbearable. I was also so nervous to tell my mom because I was her "little girl" and this would mean I'd be grown up now. I finally told her while we were out driving around and then we went at bought all the girly stuff. She convinced me to take some motrin and wow, the pain finally subsided. I couldn't believe how painful something like that could be. I just thought it was something that would come and go quickly, but the pain stayed on for the whole 7 days. My next period was extremely heavy and it forced me to stay home a day or two. Eventually, over the years, my periods finally got regulated where some of them were very light. The cramps would subside somewhat and the hotflashes would not be as bad.

I am still shocked I have had my period for so long now, but now to me, it's just a part of my every day monthly routine. I don't dread it quite as much as I did before. I do get emotional somewhat, but not to the point of dagger throwing. lol. I actually feel my best when my period arrives, it's the time up to that point where I feel mentally and physically exhausted and feel like I can't think clearly, stumble over my words and thoughts and feel achy all over. I then get my period and mainly have hot flashes, bloatedness, cramps, and some bowel problems.. but it's by far much more mild compared to my first few years. I'll never want to experience those again!!

I feel for all the women out there who suffer even just a little with this kind of thing!

I tried pads for my first period and just couldn't get used to them sliding or thinking somewhat saw them sticking out if I wore something tight. Plus, I liked swimming, so wearing pads pretty much makes it very hard to swim with them on you. I used tampons pretty much from the get go and haven't turned back!

If they are that heavy and you are anemic have the doctors not suggested anything?  A D and C or the pill or using a coil?

But that's just treating the anemia isn't it?  Haven't they looked at ways of stopping you bleeding so heavily?  Two of my friends had 'flooding' like you.  They both had a D and C (the 'scrape') and afterwards the problem had gone away.

They did a D&C on me after a baby, but it never went away.  :(

I normally use pads but I will use tampons WITH the pads on my heavy days. Sometimes I may use just a tampons if I am having a light day. For the past few years, I don't seem to have a "normal" period. I will miss months, then I may have a "normal" one. Then I will have one that appears to be "normal" only to spot about a week later than usual. Oh man, and the hot flashes. I get hot and cold, then hot again, and then cold again all within about 10 minute time span. I really can't wait for all of this to be over and done with. I'm afraid it is only going to get worse before it gets better.

I don't normally use pads, accept if I can't absolutey use a tampon for whatever reason, I'll get the think pads and to be honest I just buy the off-brand for those. I'd probably buy Always if I were to buy the brand name version of them.

Playtex - I always use Playtex plastic applicators. I did use the Kotex brand, but those things are massive! Okay - I bet any guy looking at this is gagging... or getting turned on in some sick way!  ;D

Brands Playtex or Kotex, usually Kotex because they are cheaper.  I hate Tampax as well.

I can't really remember what brands I used.  Probably supermarket own brands for towels, although I know I did use carefree mini towels.  Which I used for many years.  Then I used some 'long' towel at night which may have been Kotex.  I always used Lil-lets applicator-free tampons.  Never could work out the applicator ones.  I would just take it out of the cardboard and fit it myself!

Now I'm also familiar with Tena-Lady towels  :-[

One thing I NEVER, EVER do is send Carlos to the store to buy pads for me. I get confused as to which ones to buy because there are so many different kinds. He has to put up with my mood swings, hot flashes, cramps, etc. etc. I WILL NOT put him through the pain of having to buy pads for me.

I would hate like hell to go through that every month.

For those that hate PMS, why not get like a Depo shot? Are they too risky/expensive for this use? No PMS if there is no M, right? Just curious.

Also, curious, does sex or orgasm help with cramps? I've read this before, though I have no idea if it works or if/how often both partners get past the messiness aspect.

Sex during that time is just...EWWWW.  8-P  The mess is just nasty. Also, sex intensifies my cramps. I will have sex during light days but not during heavy ones.

The Depo shot can have the reverse effect.  My friend Michelle had one and had a three month period.  :o This is a known side effect but one you can't predict beforehand will hit you or not.

My problem with the Depo shot is that it just isn't natural not to have a period for that long.  I don't think I would dare try it.

There is a vaccine called Gardasil that they are giving to pre-teen/teenage girls to prevent many types of HPV.  There is no cure once you have it.  It is classified as a sexually transmitted disease, but it should be noted that it is easily carried through saliva.  Incidentally, I never even knew I had HPV until I got pregnant, and there I was in my first tri-mester getting a colposcopy and biopsies and all of that other awful stuff.  It's a pre-cancerous condition and needs to be monitored regularly.

In the days before and after my first marriage, I had a very very heavy period that lasted 3 weeks.  I was feeling so lightheaded and weak.  Still eloped though (perhaps that's the reason... I wasn't thinking clearly.  :-X  ;D )  Anyways, my regular gynocologist was on vacation, her replacement didn't want to see me (I'm still trying to work out why... if they are supposed to take over the dr.'s patients, why turn away any of them? but whatever...)  The next day my fiance took me to a Emergency room, and they said to see my regular Gynocologist.  Yeah...ok. 
Finally went to a hospital emergency room that is specifically geared towards treating women's health issue, and viola!  FINALLY got some help, they prescribed me a pill... I think it was called projesterone or something like that?  Anyways, it finally stopped.  Halleluah!

I've always had scattered cycles, sometimes going 5 or 6 months without one.  I was meant to start on birth control pills, but they said that I had to come in the next time I was having a cycle, and...I didn't have one again for another 6 months or so.  Never bothered going back in.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I'd have to ultrasounds done over the years to determine if I, too, had PCOS, the first time, they said no.  Then ultimately, last fall after the second ultrasound, it turned out that I did indeed have PCOS, and that the pill that I take for my Diabetes is also used to treat PCOS.  Isn't that weird?  I am finally having regular (well...at least for me, only skipping a month now and again) but it seems that when I am most stressed is when I start.  Again a real quirk for me.

It's weird that I'm sharing this, since it's not something I'm really used to talking about.  Even my mom and I never discussed anything of that nature.  ;D  It's something about this message board that allows me to open my mouth and let everything spill forth.  ???

Do all of you have Our Bodies, Ourselves at home.  It really is a must have book for every home with a female.  I think every young girl who enters puberty should have it.  They also have Ourselves, Growing Older which is about entering menopause and later life.  If you don't have it get it now.  They are written by female doctors, many of who have given birth.  It is very straight forward and answers a lot of questions you probably didn't know you had.

Many, many moons ago, I had what they called dysplasia (could be pre-cancer). They did several biopsies-OUCH!!!! Talk about mega pain-and then the soreness afterward. Then they did cryosurgery which means they froze my cervix. They told me that I would have a "little" discharge. "Little" my ass. I went through a box of maxi pads (couldn't use tampons for months after) within a 24 hour time span.  :o :o :o :o  No, it was wasn't blood but liquid. But it worked. Didn't have the dysplasia after that.

Yes, I think I'd feel like I'd have this build up for months on end and then it would finally happen and who knows what to expect? I recommend it highly.  I have given it as gifts, with parents permission, to the teenage girls of friends.  They have all kept the books.  I gave mine away but not until I bought Ourselves Growing Older which starts at the pre menopause years.  It answered a lot of questions that saved me calling my gynecologist and driving her crazy.  ::)

The Depo shot can have the reverse effect.  My friend Michelle had one and had a three month period.  :o This is a known side effect but one you can't predict beforehand will hit you or not.



We eventually started Micah on the Depo shot because her periods were so bad, they were interfering with her daily life.  We tried the pill first, but that didn't work.  The Depo shot worked brilliantly, but like your friend, she had a very bad period that lasted in her case 7 weeks.  I went on the shot about 6 months after Micah did.  I (knock on wood) haven't had any trouble at all and it has saved me a fortune buying supplies for 2 of us.  Now that I am 41, they are going to take me off it to see if I am entering menopause.  I told them don't be in any rush!  My mom has been going through menopause most of my life (about 25 yrs and I'm not exaggerating).

I have been diagnosed with HPV and have had laser treatment to clear up.  I must go for check-ups every four months  :(

Yeah it does. They can't figure out why my body produces so much yeast. I take Acidophilus every day plus eat a lot of yogurt (usually 1 thing a day). It helps but I still get yeast.

After I had my daughter I developed the cystic acne.  The dermatologist prescribed an antibiotic  because it's hormonal and the topical treatments don't help at all.

1. Wouldn't know.
2. Yes. I do that when the pain is so bad that I lie in bed in the fetal position. The heat does help somewhat but not completely.
3. When hormones are acting up, banging ANYTHING helps gets out aggression-and as Dagwood said, it is better than banging heads together.
4. The reason SOME women sound like Linda Blair from the Exorcist is because we are in excruciating pain, not to mention having our hormones bouncing off the walls in every direction. Yes, it can seem like demons have entered our bodies and we are no longer in control.
5. Because the Army is run by men who don't know-or want to know what it is like to suffer from P.M.S.
6. Staying out of the way is the BEST thing a man can do. However, I did mention in an earlier post that when I have extreme pain, Carlos will make me a concoction (chamomile tea with honey and herbs) to try to ease the pain. Sometimes the tea helps-sometimes it doesn't. Or he will get me the heating pad-or get me whatever he can. But he never thinks he KNOWS what I am going through. He just knows that I am in pain and will try to ease the pain as much as he can. And if I am emotional and start crying, he will come and put his arms around me and tell me that he loves me.

One thing I TRY not to do when I get emotional is take it out on him. I know it is not his fault that I get like this-and he knows that it is not my fault that I get like that, too. So, we do have a mutual understanding about it-and we both deal with it as best as we can-and hopefully we won't have to deal with it much longer.

Yes...

I used to use a heating pad when I'd have bad cramps in my teens and early-20's...

...but now that I'm much older, my cramps aren't too bad and Advil will usually do the trick!  :)

There is a certain "herb" that does help but of course we all know that it illegal.  ;)  However, a member of the same family-catnip also helps. Create a tea out of FRESH catnip. I wouldn't use the stuff that comes in the box by Hertz. Most herbal stores will carry fresh catnip.

I started mine today, no hope of Alpha on here for me.  It's true about that tho - I have pulled all of my employees into my cycle.  Get's pretty interesting at work.  We have a cryer and I find that helps.  Pulls focus and helps everyone regroup. 

my PMS takes the form of a few aches and pains and I just hate my husband for a week, no one else - just my husband.  I think he likes it because then I spend the next week making it up to him.  He just bites his pillow waiting for it to pass, knowing it will and he'll benefit in the long run. ??? ::)

What does she do in that?

Elizabeth has done two Human Growth and Development courses now.  One at school taught by the school nurse and the Gym teacher and one organised by the town that took three evenings.

It's the program for 5th and 6th grade where they separate the boys and girls and talk about puberty and stuff.  I already answer questions when she asks and she knows about it, but the program just makes me realize she is growing up and that makes me a sad panda. :(

I'm not sure, it doesn't say.  All it says is she is teaching the girls.  The program is on Feb 9th.  I'll let you know how it goes.

The town classes here were in mixed groups for all the sessions.  In a way I liked that because you get to find out both sides of what is happening.  And we got to see a boy turn pale and feel sick when they were learning about the female anatomy!

Here is a story that is not for the faint of heart:

I think I had an ovarian cyst rupture yesterday.  :(  I've had them my whole life, and I've had them rupture before, but this one was kind of crazy.  I was having lunch at a Mexican resturant and started coughing (I've had a cold) when I felt a "pop"  down south.  I was like "huh, that's weird."  And then the pain started.  It was like cramps times 1000 and my left ovary felt like it was being impaled by a harpoon.  Oddly enough though, I didn't want to interrupt lunch, so I just sat there and ate.  I know that sounds weird, but I thought it was just cramps, and I thought I'd just see what happened.  Plus I was with my husband and brother in law.  My husband is used to this stuff, but my brother in law, not so much...

Anyway, after lunch we went over to Best Buy.  We got a bunch of gift cards and cash for Christmas and we've been wanting to buy a Wii with them, but Best Buy hasn't had any in stock, so we thought we check again yesterday.  And here I am, still in horrible pain, but dammit, I really wanted to get a Wii!  So when we got there, I excused myself to go to the bathroom, and well, the evidence suggested that it probably did rupture.  (When you have ovarian cysts, sometimes when you're on your period they fill up with blood and such, and they can become really painful.  And this one had been bugging me...and I guess it had reached it's limit...and boom.)  Anyway, I cleaned up - I was already using proper protection so it wasn't TOO bad, and went back out.  I was still in horrible pain, but again...the Wii...

I finally whispered to my husband what I thought had happened, and he took it much more seriously than I did.  LOL.  So I went and laid in the car while they quickly finished their purchases.  Luckily I had a pain pill with me - my doctor prescribed them for just such occurances.  Within an hour the pill had kicked in and I was feeling better.  AND we got a Wii!  Anyway, that was my Saturday afternoon.  ::)

Ok, maturation program is past.  I asked her how it went and she was more obsessed with what they told her about the boys. ;D  She said she pretty much knew everything they told her about the girls side of it.  She asks alot of questions and I answer truthfully.  I could have done without her trying to recreate "how to insert a tampon". ::) (yes she was dressed, they went from the directions that come with the tampons)

Still no period.  I have been on the verge for 4 days now.  I have no tolerance for anything, and I am exposed to a lot at work.  Went for retail therapy last night, helped somewhat.  Cuddled with my dogs when I got home.  Thankfully it's Friday and I'm sure I'll get my monthlies before coming back to the office Monday.  I have never had such a long period of emotional unbalance prior to my period before.  Think it has something to do with the weather?

I ruined my daughter's couch.  When I realized what had just transpired I had to call her over.  Room full of company.  She's such a good girl, called everyone into the kitchen, ran back, flipped the cusihon over while I ran away to change into her biggest sweats.  I had no clue anything was on the horizon, it just showed up and with with a vengeance.

Now that I'm well into my fourties, my cycle has definitely changed.  Periods come more frequently now and sometimes I never know when to expect them.  It sucks getting older.  :P

My tests came back normal as well, I researched further and as a result suspect that the day I had the tests done I may well have been normal.  However, when I am experiencing symptoms is when I should have the tests done.  It doesn't matter though, I know it's going down.

Don't believe it. Your hormones could have been "normal" when you were tested but the next day (or the day before) could have been a different story. Doctors are always great telling women things but you know your body better than they do.

Had a colposcopy about 15 years ago - I am sure the technology did not get much better - than I had Chyrosurgery (and it made me drop to the floor) :-[

They snip and then they quarterize - nothing new there.  I've never had chryosurgery but I did have the laser removal done.  (I'm sure there's a name for the procedure, I just don't know what it is).  Anyway, it's never fun when the doctors are working on all of the fun places. ???

I had cryosurgery-they told me that there would be a little discharge. A LITTLE??  :o :o :o  I went through an entire box of maxi pads in a 24 hour time frame!!!  :o :o :o :o  I felt like I was Niagara Falls.

Some people are more affected by hormones than others.  Also I had bad cramps the first few times, then it got better for a while, and then I had a few years of really bad (like going home from work because I couldn't stand up).  Then in my twenties it got better and I never had a cramping problem again.  Mood swings are another story though.  8-P

I guess I am a freak of nature also.  I don't experience cramps and my periods are light.  On a rare occasion something odd happens and I have a heavy period but that would last a day or so.  I did have cramps when I was much younger but it was never anything terribly bad and affected my legs more than anything. I am not complaining.

I have the human papilloma virus which has moved to a stage 2 precancerous condition.  They have to treat with lasers and I can tell you, it's awful!  I just had it done again this past Saturday and I was almost begging for the hysterectomy and my Dr. said "we're not at that point yet".  I said, "I'm done procreating!!  Take this f*&$()% thing outta me", which had the opposite effect, as he said "You're always such a riot"!  ???

You're correct - we should choose.  There are doctors who will perform mastectomies preventatively if there is a history of breast cancer and it should be the same with cervical cancer!

I don't know her diagnosis, but my cousin had a partial hysterectomy last year at 38 years old, which I thought was absurd; just have the whole damned thing out and be done with it!  She had already had 3 kids, and wasn't planning more.  Now it seems they have to finally finish the job.  Another surgery!!  >:( :(

Have you tried Mirena IUD?  It might not suit your particular situation but most people I know have v light or no periods after a few months.

I'm back on the pill again.  I have asked about the IUD but my doctor seems to think that the pill is a better option for me because I have cysts on my uterus and ovaries.  ::)

The missus has been off of Depo shots for a while now. Finally got her visit from Aunt Flo. First one wasn't bad, second one was only two weeks later - I brought her a change of pants to work. How long should it take for her to be on a monthly cycle again?

Bless her, she was on bc of one form or another for over 10 years. She's doing pretty well as far as mood and cramping.

I'd be a safe bet, I would'nt DARE attempt to cross the border with those kind of "meds".  It's pretty easy to get a card here though, prescription card allowing you to carry a certain amount of low THC etc.  I couldn't be bothered and truth be told I haven't actually tried the remedy, I am saving a doobie a friend confiscated from her teenage daughter.  At the moment it smells like Bounce Fabric Softener - she had it wrapped up in a sheet in case?  In case her mother brought in drug sniffing dogs, now that's paranoia - maybe I don't wnat to smoke that doobie after all.

It can take six months to a year for the full effects of the hormones to wear off.  So it will tak some time to settle into a regular pattern again.

My sister had a similar situation. She was on birth control forever and when she hit 40, they wanted to take her off of it. She didn't want to. She even quit smoking so she can be on birth control longer. Of course, now she doesn't need it.

What I find interesting is that she loved being on the pill and I had such complications when I was on it. You would think that we have the same genetic make-up that we would respond the same way-but we didn't.

Oh yeah, after a week & a half, "Aunt Flo" FINALLY went away. About f***in' time!!!

Now see I have this wonderful contraceptive pill that stopped all of the PMS symptoms and mood swings literally from the first moment I took it 10 years ago. I have never looked back it has been blissful.

So then Ii go to see a different doctor to my usual one and he tells me I am middleaged and need to stop taking it immediatly even though my own doctor was quite happy for me to continue for the time being. I tell you ladies this is war! I have *NO* intention of letting this go without a battle.............

I've never posted in this thread before, but here I go...I had decided last night that today I would go to the beach all alone today and enjoy some serious sun time in peace....this morning I decided I'm too cranky and lazy to go....besides I'm having BrightHouse come between 2-4pm to exchange my hd dvr box, so I figured I'll just stay here and mentally rip off the head of whatever poor unassuming guy that they send....I'm sure that will make me feel better.  ;)

I try not to pick at them, but they hurt so much, I find myself keep rubbing them and messing with them.  I hate it and feel like a freak of nature.  My kids want me to go swimming, I love the pool, but don't want to go because 1. I am bloated and 2. I do not want people to see my face :\'(

I developed cystic acne after the birth of my daughter.  Since it's hormonal, the only thing that really combats it is an antibiotic  :(

I was hoping I would get mine this week. I know, I know. How could anyone HOPE to get it. Next week we are having Carlos' dad & sister arrive and will be staying with us for 2 weeks. On the 25th is Carlos' youngest's wedding. I really don't want to have it for any of those. I hope it comes & goes before everything happens. Whenever I have something planned, be it with Big Nasty or family or anything at all, Mother Nature decides that it is the perfect time for her to come for a visit. I feel like that commercial where the girls are on vacation to Hawaii or wherever and the little snot shows up and says "I'm here to ruin your vacation!!!" >:(

Not to mention that I can pretty much forget about trying to keep track by counting. It used to be 26-28 days for me, but this month... 23 days!!! I suppose it has a lot to do with stress and other influences, but this is just not what I needed right now. And my flippin' back is so sore right now! The outer sides of my breasts are sore to touch and my tummy just keeps doing flip flops. I am so not impressed at all. >:(

BTW, I read that there was a study done at the Mayo Clinic that flax seed oil helps with hot flashes. I started taking it and the hot flashes are not as intense as they were-still get them but at least now they are bearable. So, all you women out there if you start to experience hot flashes, get some flax seed oil.

Well, truthfully, I've always been like this.  I asked my gyno about it awhile ago and they just wanted to put me on the pill, but to come in when my next one started (which was several months after that and she happened to be on vacation) so it never really worked out.  I've been very neglectful of my health issues over the years.  :-\\ :-[

A friend of mine was like this.  She occasionally went a year or so between periods.  She went on the pill for a few months and this seemed to kick-start her hormones.  As far as I know she's been fine ever since.

I skipped the entire month of August and it showed up last night.  >:( The only problem is that even though it skipped me in August, I still had all the pain and nerves I usually get.  :\'(  And they have lasted up til now.  I was always a little irregular anyway, but now that I'm getting older, it's getting worse, not better. I have an appt Oct 6 to see what can be done, this has gone on long enough.

Big hugs to anyone else going through this right now!  :)

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO glad I don't have to deal with that anymore!!!  I never really got PMS, though, just horrendous visits from Aunt Flo.  She'd come for about 2 weeks and only go away for about a week in between visits >:(  To make matters worse, with my other "issues," tampons weren't an option after Logan was born.  Had my surgery almost 2 years ago and have to say it was the BEST thing I've ever done!!!

Unfortunately, my girlfriend is on her period right now. That means we can't have a 'Torey Talk'...

She's not really an angry PMS-er, just kind of a depressed PMS-er. I got her tickets to the new Twilight movie though, and even though I don't personally enjoy it, I'll sacrifice 2 hours of my day to make her feel better.

I wanna wear a shirt to that movie that says 'Team Israel'. Or 'Team Kanye'. Something along those lines.

I have been so crampy for a while now. I just got over "Aunt Flo" next week so it doesn't make any sense why I would be so crampy. Yup-I chalk it up to being peritmenopausal. I REALLY, REALLY can't wait for the BIG M and then I don't have to deal with all this sh!t!
